Nice job missing the whole point. DINGER HAD THE BETTER, MORE EXPERIENCED PLAYERS! You would expect him to have had greater success.

This is much ado about nothing. RollTide clearly states at the beginning of the thread
that Dinger is an improvement, just not the second coming. RT is right.. that's the way
it is. My expectations for Dinger are positive. I think he will get more out of 'Fisherball'
than Chow. He has done it before in his first go round and he can do it again.

Audioman, I agree. RT has made some good points - Dinger is not God and he will not turn this offense into some sort of powerhouse - his track record doesn't suggest that. Chow did get too much of the blame for our poor offense last year - but he deserved some of it. His play calling in the red zone was bad - actually, it was worse than bad. It was terrible. He called a decent game between the 20's, but he had no imagination and no guts in the red zone. There needed to be a change in the personality and culture of our offense and the easiest way to do that was to change the person in charge - Chow.

If we can improve our scoring from 18 points a game to somewhere around 22 or 23 points a game - we score one TD when we would have settled for a FG last year - that will pay big dividends for this season if the defense is at the same level.

Handcuffs- people say Chow had no imagination in the redzone? He was trying to do what Fisher wanted, control the ball and put points on the board, therefore was handicapped by Vince Youngs terrible decision making. It isn't like Vince was 100% healthy and would just tuck and run, because he WASN'T. If you all expect that to happen this year, than you really are clueless because that has nothing to do with Heimerdinger, that is just athleticism, not organized football. Vince is exactly like Mike Vick, electric, all the tools in the toolbox, just no aptitude. You can't blame Chow for Vince not developing, when as it has been clearly stated, his mind wasn't always on football, and he was a bit of a pouter.

Jwill, that is what I implied about Dinger... he will get more leeway in the redzone. I
really think that is all you need for improvement. An extra 6,7 points a game is HUGE
    as Mcmojo said.

Jwill, I don't think this is an either/or situation. Football is a complicated team game, and everyone on the field (players) and off the field (coaches) affect the success of a team. Young is not blameless for how impotent our offense was last year. But he is not the only person at fault. If you can honestly say that Chow put Young and the offense in the best position to succeed last year, then there is no point in continuing this conversation. They both made errors in judgment - Young on the field and Chow off the field. Fisher was not about to get rid of Young and it was obvious that Chow was in over his head - he even intimated to that during the season when he would comment about how difficult it was to call plays in the NFL. Something had to change and Chow was the best option. Hopefully Fisher will give Dinger free reign on the offense - it sounds like he will - and hopefully Young has improved in the mental aspect of playing Quarterback in the NFL. If those things happen, then we should improve substantially this year.

McMojo, from the camp reports so far it seems all Vince is doing in 7on7 and 11on11 is checking down to Alge and the RBs with the occasional shot down the sideline. Isn't this the exact same thing everyone is blaming Chow and his anemic offense for? You would think there would be some different offensive scheming with the different coaches right? but we're seeing the same thing from ol' Vince, so the common denominator is VY.

Jwill, it's obvious you don't care for VY, and that is your right. But let's continue this conversation sometime during the regular season. If the offense is still anemic then it will be clear that Young is the common denominator. But if the offense is better then please don't give Dinger, Crumpler and anyone else you can name other than Young the credit.

By the way, I haven't read those reports. I'm sure there has been plenty of that considering it is pretty much the definition of ball control, but why is this a bad thing. The check downs worked last year - until we got in the Red Zone. If it ain't broke... But the Red Zone was broken and this is where I hope that Dinger and Young's improvement will pay dividends.

Call me naive and overly optimistic but I have a good feeling about this team.

As I said yesterday on another post, nothing against VY, but he isn't an NFL QB. I also said it's on nobody but Vince, only Vince can make it work.

Agreed, I won't give anyone else credit but Vince, it's all on him. But, just running around won't cut it, he needs to improve dramatically in the passing game and get his WRs the ball.
