Haynesworth's Speeding Ticket Goes Before Grand Jury...

I too, wondered why the grand jury was involved. In checking I believe it is because of the number he has received in the past year and the triple digit speed he was doing on this last one. (Rumor)

 

Although a grand jury sounds like a serious proceeding, in actuality, it is relatively minor - particularly when dealing with a state offense.

A grand jury is simply a group of citizens who decide whether there is probable cause to believe a crime was committed. If a grand jury believes so, then the case moves forward. However, that decision in no ways reflects the actual guilt of the criminal defendant.

In regard to why Albert's agent is not representing him, a criminal defendant does not have a constitutional right to counsel during a grand jury because, technically, prior to a grand jury indictment, there are no charges pending against the criminal defendant.
