i agree with gloat and alpha, but it will come down to how johnson performs in camp a little. if he plays like he should he'll be #2 for sure. if he isn't figuring it out he may start the season behind henry in the depth chart, but more than likely move up after a few games, but unless henry turns up at camp and pre-season and is unbelievably spectacular then it would be johnson at #2 for sure. even if lendale went down, johson and henry spliting the carries 50/50 couldn't be so bad.

He's not an inside bruiser? That's true. If only he could be an inside pounder like Chris Brown was...now that pound-the-ball type back was our type, huh?

he wasn't a bruiser, but he was certainly a good inside runner when it came to picking his way through the trash for 4 yards.

There is no reason to think johnson can't be an every down back simply based on his size. He is similar in size to curtis martin and tiki barber and bigger than warrick dunn and tony dorsett. Marshall faulk and emmitt smith were no bigger than johnson when they entered the league but did bulk up some over the years...

he can bulk up a little. he can easily be a solid backup. You don't use a first round pick for a situational running back

I keep hearing that argument. Is there a draft handbook out there somewhere that I don't know about?

"Rule #14b of the NFL Draft states: An organization must not, under any circumstances, use a first round pick on a situational running back. It is unethical and leads to the initial dismantling of an organization based on a bad pick. Could be punishable by fine or suspension of front office personnel by Commissioner Roger Goodell." :suspect:

lol Makes me wonder what Bears fans were saying when they picked Devin Hester.
If a situational running back is a bad pick, what would 'just a fast guy' pick be?

And people act like CJ is 5'9 and 175 or something. He's listed at 5'11 (you dont want an RB taller) and 200lbs. He'll gain 20lbs lbs in an NFL program. I'm going to guess ECU doesn't know much about bulking players up.
Marion Barber is 6'0 and 220. Ladainian Tomlinson is 5'10, 220. Steven Jackson is a big back and he's 6'2, 230.

So if Johnson bulks up to 220, as he should, he'll be average size in today's NFL. Especially for a back that's not going to be getting 30 carries a game.

Good points. I reserve the right to judge this pick until I see him in action. I think he does have a possibility of making an impact this year.

That rule must have been sponsored by Merril Hoge, which incidentaly was preceded by another of his rules "Rule #14a of the NFL Draft states: An organization must not, under any circumstances, use a first round pick on a running quarterback. It is unethical and leads to the initial dismantling of an organization based on a bad pick. Could be punishable by fine or suspension of front office personnel by Commissioner Roger Goodell."
