While I would have liked to have seem some more quality additions this off season, I agree with those of you who say that the market price for these guys was just too high....This was an unusual year in the sense that almost every team had a lot of money to spend and bid the price of the guys up too much.

It's worth remembering that in the NFL ( unlike baseball and some other sports) it's very hard ( just about impossible) to "BUY' a winning team.
    .....Just ask the Redskins....

It does concern me that it seems that other than VY, Roos Maybe a few other exceptions, we haven't drafted well...I'm not sure why that is...

Still, to spend all our money on long term contracts for guys who are on the down side of their careers is a bad move that always come back to bite us.

Here's to hoping the guys we have - Guys that I think have enough talent if they can be coached up to play at their potential...Maybe they'll surprise us.

I think you're hitting on what I've been hinting at, our past few draft years have sucked.....................except for the VY selection. This year we questioned the 2nd round pick of Henry. He probably would have been there in the 3rd round. A guy who really didn't play too much college ball gets picked in the 2nd purely on speculation. I didn't buy it then and I don't buy it now. Like I said earlier, 2 second round RBs picks and no starter!

When you look at the playoff teams from last year, I say to myself, who was really better than the Titans. Not too many. Which is why I believe we will be just fine.

    Definite:
Colts, but we split 1-1 with them
    Patriots, they kicked our ***

    Maybe just a bit better
San Diego - Really rely on one player to do everyhing. Damn good player though.
Seattle - Alexander and Hasselback make them just a bit better.
Eagles - They seem to have their act together.

That is a grand total of 5 teams out of 12. I think we have an excellent chance of making the playoffs, if for no other reason than all the other teams are no better than we are.

    Riverman,

I guess you could take it that way...My point is that we have players at positions who haven't proven themselves yet...These guys are gonna have to play better than they have in the past to be successful...I think that possible.

On a brght note...Our O-line came together pretty good last year...we still have those guys. They'll help open holes for whoever is running...VY should only get better...there are reasons to be optimistic...Our defense has got to step up a bit.

Let's get down to the core of the problem....VY. He is never going to be a Palmer, Brady, Cutler, etc. type QB. He is unique in what he does, so I see the Titans building around that. We are going to keep running the ball a lot, and I see Henry and White sharing time. The TE's are going to be heavily involved also. The main thing we need in a WR, is someone that can improvise with VY when he leaves the pocket, and be able to break off a route and give him options. I think Bennett was much better than most people give credit, but even I can't see us paying what he is making now, as he is more a get open type guy, and VY doesn't have the accuracy to use that. He does better when he is on the move, and receivers are adjusting. I think Wade and Jones were better at that than Bennett. I think this year we are going to see just as much running, and a lot of short stuff....dump offs to the backs, TE's very involved, and of course more options for VY to do his thing. The WR's we drafted seem to be the type to go up and fight for the ball, which is exactly what we needed. Add the speed of Hall to the mix, and we should have a lot of threats short range.

Defense is the big question mark. Unproven LB's in the middle, and an aging Bulluck. Suspect play at RDE is a glaring problem, but we still have cap room, and a draft pick that might develop. We have a lot of question marks, but we are certainly in better shape now than we were last year, with the exception of losing Pacman. Preseason last year was a mess, but this year at least we have a much better idea of who is going to start. I am not overly optimistic about this year, but I do believe we are heading in the right direction, and building a team that will endure for several years.

as long as Fishers pet DC is allowed to mis coordinate the D and completly Dnut them the Titans do not have a chance. MBSGWb has proven over time that his players will NOT develop, and most regress.

Lamont Thompson arrives in Nashville and hits anything that moves, and hits it hard. Fast forward to the Schwartzified sissyboy that the "Big Dummy" has become. Won't hit and can't cover - yet starts and recieves vast majority of snaps.

It will be embarassing to watch the Schwartzified version of Hope and Thornton.

TNThunder... I generally agree with you, although I'm not convinced that Vince can't be a very accurate passer. I'll give you that he isn't now, but just based on the incredible improvement he showed in college with his accuracy and how hard he's working at the game, I can see him being an excellent pocket QB. I've posted this before somewhere, but Steve Young (who was Mr. Accurate) only had a 53% completion average his first 2 or 3 years in the NFL. And I was a little surprised to read on Wikipedia that Young's actual Wonderlic score was the same as Dan Marino's.

But because he is so good at improvising now, there is a great potential for the biggest plays to be when things break down and he can play street ball. Houston game is a great example - with the all-out blitz closing down most QB's might have just thrown it away... VY runs 39 yds for the TD. If the WRs can adjust they can get wide open in those situations. You are totally right that we need to have a big performance from our TEs this year though. They are probably the most seasoned and talented group of the offense (2nd to the O-line I suppose). They have to step up this year.

I'm most concerned with defense, too. But I like how the secondary has slowly begun to take shape, even in Pac's absence. The line has some good talent, but was very disappointing last year, and DE is more of a question mark to me than our WR pool. We're getting there, but without several positions making a dramatic turnaround I think we're another year or 2 from being back in the elite of the NFL.

  10. i agree with just about everything that u guys said... i think that we should use Ahrmad Hall much more than we did last year, because he showed that he has massive yac ability, and hes sooo fast for being as powerful as he is... our TEs like both of u said definately need to come through, Scaife did an excellent job last year, but Troupe really needs to step it up now... and it makes me safe knowing that we have Vince at the helm because when everything fails he can make something happen for us
