SUMMARY: QB Vince Young has a lot on his mind these days. One thing he doesn't have to concern himself with is his offensive line. "The main thing I can do to help him is make sure the guys up front are on the same page, making the right calls and getting the protection going the right way and things like that," C Kevin Mawae said. "As long as the quarterback, whether it's a young guy or an older guy, has confidence in the center making the protection calls it can take a load off of his mind. He doesn't have to worry about it and can just trust them." the six-time Pro Bowler knows how to make sure the other offensive linemen use the correct blocking scheme on a given play. In 2000, Jets QB Chad Pennington was sacked just 22 times in 399 pass attempts. By comparison, Titans starter Billy Volek was sacked 30 times in 2004, the year he started eight games in place of an injured Steve McNair.

He is a huge upgrade over Hartwig in toughness, smarts, leadership and will make the OL much better. Looks like he is becoming a great help to VY as the article talks about and this will help VYs coinfidence a lot. Amazing the the center may be the one that gets VY on the field quicker. A great pick up by Reese. The OL is the key to this season and Mawae is the key to the OL.

Downside is, Mawae is at the end of his career, and Young will have to start over with a new center by the time he becomes the full time starter.

Right now the future is not as much a concern as turning this season into a winner. With the past two seasons being less than fulfilling, the Titans really need to make a run this season. Volek has all the tools to compliment a strong running game with a strong passing game. Unfortunately, Billy seems to have somewhat of a glass jaw. I'm glad Mawae and Co. are there to protect him. Given time, Volek can make great throws all day. I'm looking forward to the reign of Vince the Young too. But, that should be a season or two down the road for everyone's sake. Go Titans!:logo:

Even if Mawae is at the end of his career he still has valuable information to give to the rest of the o-line.

I'm anxious to see how much better but we can't forget about Hopkins being gone too.

Kevin Mawae is a BEAST. He'll get this line in shape. Even though he is up there in years, he is easily better than 95% of the other centers in the league.

    I hear you ;)

But do you think all we needed was someone like Mawae? I guess I'm asking does he elevate this Oline above subpar? Is he the missing cog? Can the supporting cast be elevated?

By the way, I'm not debating. I'm seriously asking.
