No QB is 100% accurate with EVERY throw. MM8 does get happy feet especially when the pocket is collapsing. But he is RARELY sacked for holding the ball too long- he gets the ball out.

I am neither an apologist nor a fanboy but I've seen enough out of MM8 to know he is a very good QB and one that could easily be a franchise QB in the right system.

We rarely get wide open WR's in this scheme and when we do we've seen our most productive receivers drop passes for sure TD's and the throw was on the money. This bunch set exotic smashmouth chit with multiple pre-snap shifts is just too easy to defend. Especially against the pass.

It simply is not accurate to put the problem on Mariota. Our run game has even gone stale in this system. Our yards mostly come on one or two big runs. And that is NOT the way to be consistently productive.

Here's the breakdown of the inexcusable interception he threw. He never look for anyone but Walker. Despite having both Decker and Supernaw in 1-1 situations, he opted for the guy running between 3 defenders.

Here's the route combos. Decker running a go or fly, Supernaw a 5y out and Walker something like a post route. Murray eventually slips out for a swing pass dumpoff. Defense looks to be playing cover 2 with a defender playing man on Walker.

Endzone shot shows that Mariota has a clean pocket and tons of time. Also notice the MLB playing the middle of the field, the LB playing man on Walker and the 2 deep safeties, one of which is 1-1 with Decker.

Again, Mariota has plenty of time. Could probably even wait for Supernaw to get outside the CB. Walker is actually going to get open, but the throw has to be well out in front of him and right over the MLB. It's a poor decision combined with poor accuracy.

I know a lot of people feel it's easier to blame the coaches. But this is a well designed play. Mariota even has the option to extend the play to his right if he wasn't comfortable with the routes. But he has decided on Walker pre-snap and never looks for any other options.

He'd need to catch up with the rest of us fans that saw this coming a mile away with this staff and scheme.

The middle image shows a 6 man O line, with Murray providing the late option as you say.

The 6 man O line is accounting for 4 of the Cards defenders.

Does this not mean they have 7 men in the backfield accounting for our 3 downfield targets? 6 if I give you the guy to the left of the screen who presumably slid onto Murray when he dropped left.

Bad pass, but also bad play imo. It was obviously going to be a pass play but we still only send 3 guys beyond the line of scrimmage.

Edit: The 6th man in the line is Jonnu Smith. You already mentioned Supernaw as one of the 3 targets. 3 tight ends on the field. Shock.

Mary showed last year that he deserves a year under quality coaches hope we get that to see what he truly is before he’s ruined forever by mulsucky n co.

This. Marcus had a very poor day and deserves his share of the blame. However, a drunk sorority girl could call more creative plays than Our overmatched coaching staff. I hope JR sees the downward slide for what it is and makes changes. As it stands now, I have zero confidence we will win again this season. This is classic self destruction at its finest and no, it isn’t a reaction to just one game.

That’s one play. And I agree it was a bad decision. But no QB makes 100% good decisions. And honestly he could have run for the 1st down.

He really looks frustrated. He probably wants the coaching staff fired more than fans do. He must be sick and tired of watching 2 guys run routes and nowhere to throw the ball. I feel for the guy, must be deflating for him.

I wasn't even on board to draft Mariota, I wanted Williams who ended up going to NYJ. But I'm happy to be wrong, Mariota has shown he can be a great QB. But again, when you have 2-3 guys running a route, the coverage is going to be heavy. At that point you're not only trying to hit your guy, but you need to try to avoid an int. Where are you supposed to go with the ball? The whole thing is a mess.
