There is zero Vince young I'd ever want. I made that statement before he was drafted and while I rooted for him as a Titan (as I do every titan) I never wanted him nor would I ever want him now.
For example, mettenberger really sucked but I never once even thought "man, I wish we still had VY".

I understand why people are frustrated with Mariota. Heck I am too when I watch the games this year. However, I've learned he has actually played pretty well. He's playing in a poor schematic offense that doesn't suit him whatsoever and throwing to Delanie and a bunch of below average targets. The OL and running game is not as strong, so the offense is basically relying on him. Yet despite that, PFF still ranks him the 7th best QB this year. Yeah, he has 12 picks, but he actually has thrown one of the lowest number of poor or interceptable passes among QBs - he's just been extremely unlucky that they have been getting picked off.

Another big improvement this year is that he has 0 fumbles. That is crazy considering he had so many his first two years. You can argue this more than makes up for his interceptions because fumbling in the pocket is way worse than throwing interceptions. He's had a lack of passing touchdowns, but throw in the 5 rushing TDs this year along with the 3 dropped TDs by receivers and the Corey Davis TD getting called a touchback and the touchdown rate is decent. And to your point, he steps it up in clutch time as he's ranked #1 by PFF in big time throws.

I'm a Texas alum and loved us getting VY (heck, I became a Titans fan because of that), but VY simply wasn't in Mariota's league. I have been critical of this offense this whole year but that's mostly due to our offensive coaching with Mariota playing a small part of the regression. The only reason our offense clicked last year was because the Titans OL and running game was elite which made it easier on Mariota. Robiskie/Mularkey don't have the acumen to design a more creative offense that doesn't rely on smash mouth football working. And with our running game regressing so badly, you can see the flaws.

Mariota is good between the stats. He's smarter with the ball this year

I have not been pleased with Mariota this year at all.

But he's easily the 2nd best QB this team (Titans) has had. And you could honestly argue he's the best QB we've had. I know that's blasphemous to some and no one will compare to the warrior within #9, but as much as I love him he was overrated. And if you put Mariota on those 1999 and 2000 teams, what do you think happens? McNair did virtually nothing those seasons and we went 13-3.

Whether you agree with that though, it is a fact that he's infinitely better than Locker and VY. Not sure how anyone could try to say otherwise.

I am genuinely hoping that most of Mariota's struggles are coaching. We are clearly not utilizing his talents enough. It's cool that he's developing into a pocket passer, but let's design some more rollouts for him, please.

Either way, we are going to have him in 2018 and 2019 once we pick up the 5th year option. By then, we'll know one way or another.

Just be happy he's healthy because if he goes down, we are done.

I have a feeling his injury is more to blame for his struggles than coaching.

I'm not defending Mularkey/Robiskie, but it's definitely strange that he thrived in their system last year.

He himself has blamed his footwork (which he didn't get to work on due to rehab)

We all just assumed he'd pick up where he left off but sometimes we overlook how important practice can be even for something like mechanics

If this staff is your answer you have to move him and get something for him before it's too late. I'm not sure Mularkey and his staff should be removed.

This much I do know. This quarterback is no fit for their system and they need to make a decision
