Hopefully LeShaun Sims can take the next step, you have to remember he's in his 2nd year in the league (first year starting) after playing for Southern Utah. He still is getting adjusted to this level of competition. I would work on the front 7 first, after already investing in Jackson, Logan Ryan, and Kevin Byard.

I think we are fine next year with our starters in the secondary. Ryan, jackson and sims at cb and byard (fs/center field) and cyprien (ss/extra lb). We need a better coverage ss and a 4th cb, but i think we can fill those with cheaper vets or the draft. We don't need any early picks or high end fas in our secondary. What we really need is a pass rusher, a true nt and to switch to a 4-3.

    Sims is not awful.

Guys, interior pass rushers and NTs are two completely different things. On obvious passing downs, the NT comes out of the game. They are not there to help the pass rush, they are there to keep the LB clean and clog holes during running plays .

Adoree has been extremely impressive for a rookie. Ryan has been better than Malcolm Butler this year and was an excellent pickup. Sims is developing nicely and is a tall CB who matches up well modern receivers. Just give him more time. Byard is obviously excellent. Cyprien is the weakest link by a mile, but I agree with others analysis... the best way to help this secondary is with a pass rush. Ours has been dreadful this year. That makes all the difference in the world.

We need defensive lineman to collapse the pocket. I think DaQuan Jones could benefit moving to NT and us getting a stud DE to play opposite of Casey.

I didn't say Rapist was a backup. I know he's legit. Just generally speaking about how bad the secondary is in DLB system and its a constant issue.

No team uses 3 interior linemen on passing downs. That is just silly. Most teams hardly stay in their base defense at all, especially in such situations.

I think you just missed the point entirely? I'm talking about replacing DaQuan Jones with a more dominate 5 technique in the passing game and letting him take over as our NT.

So you are essentially suggesting taking him off the field during passing situations. Got it.

I'll take a better pass rusher on the inside, outside, wherever. I would like to see how things would fare with a better DC. I think we have capable pass rushers, and capable players on defense in general. But to think of an 80 year old coach trying to draw up a game plan to stop New England is just laughable. Teams have adapted to schemes like the one he runs.
