Except that we don't know that it's only due to offset language. That's the assumed reason, but a recent article on ESPN also said in Bosa's case it wasn't just the offset language. A lot of his hold out was also over when certain bonuses and guarantees got paid out. So hopefully it's not as long as his was because the time missed for a rookie WR in my opinion is is greater than a rookie DE.

 

This was my point a few pages back. A DL doesn't need reps as much as a WR does with a new QB. Every rep he misses will make it tougher at the beginning of the year.

 

That was on the Chargers. They never picked that high with the rookie wage scale, so they thought they didn't have to give him the bonuses that every number 3 pick got with the rookie wage scale.

The Chargers basically said, "we've never paid a rookie like that before, so we're not going to start now," which didn't make any sense at all because they never picked at number 3.

Fortunately, the Titans have picked at number 2, so I doubt that is an issue.

It's not about IF they give the bonuses, it's deferred payments of bonuses...which is a squable every team has with players. WHEN do we pay these huge bonuses...?

I remember reading a few years back the Titans changed the pay schedule for game checks to try to keep it where rookies would learn to conserve money instead of blowing every game check because they had another huge check coming soon.

Right. And the Chargers took the position that they had never paid anyone like that before, which was moronic because they were never in the position to pay someone like that before. They didn't want to give someone something that was commensurate with the number three slot.
