Defense is gonna be just as bad next season

Since Jon has been hired, we have either sustained or upgraded every position on the field. We completely overhauled the offense over the last 3 years. The defense is making the same transformation.
If Sly Williams can push the pocket and demand a double team, then we are really going to be a force. I still feel we are going to acquire 2 "depth signings at cb" and "lb" (that can also play Special Teams).

This is the 1st time in years that we can say that we have a legit Defense, a legit Team.

Quite simply, you don't draft special teamers in round 1. We drafted a cb who can also make a big impact on special teams. But we drafted him as a cb so he needs to make an impact at that position or it will be considered a bad pick...unless he becomes a HOF returner. He has the talent and the speed/athleticism....but we will need to develop him. Something we have struggled to do with a lot of players - especially at WR!

You can make the transition a lot faster if you first...realize this was a .500 roster with Munch before Whiz wrecked it with his coaching/scheme. But that roster has only been improving. 2 bad years doesn't mean we had no talent...coaching and poor qb play and injuries have a major effect on game outcomes (ie...win/loss record). We have a good amount of talent.

And it's funny you mention we need a few final pieces...because we have FORTY EIGHT MILLIONS IN CAP ROOM left unspent the last 2 offseasons. That translates to FOUR high impact players that aren't on our roster but SHOULD be!!!

What if we had signed Osemele (pro bowl ot) to play RT last year and instead of drafting Conklin and losing our 2nd this year, we took Eli Apple at CB at 15 and then also got Zach Cunningham at ILB with the 2nd round pick this year. That one signing gets us 2 additional impact players at positions we need!

What if we signed Snacks Harrison last year or Brandon Williams this year to play NT. Star run stuffer...check!

How about 1 yr deals on Terrelle Pryor and Prince Amukamara. Not expensive and at worst solid players. If they are a good fit, we sign them long term and have a solid starter up to star player. They don't work out this year...see ya...and if they sign big contracts with someone else, we get comp picks for them leaving!

At the moment, we have to hope a vet cb gets cut and all of our projected starters hit or it's another hole we can't fill til next year.

Plenty of opportunities to add significant talent to the roster and our $48mil is just sitting there...for what? other teams are putting that money ON THE FIELD to BEAT US!!!

So have we improved? Certainly. But so has everyone in our division and they have added more money on to the field while ours is sitting in the bank! Is that a recipe for winning or tying one hand behind Mularkey's back.

I live in NY and there were some large discussions about the Giants buying half their D the off-season AFTER they fired Coughlin for not having a good enough record (in large part to poor drafting by the GM and them not spending in FA until he was let go). Are we gonna see the same thing? I get planning for Mariota and Lewan and others long term contracts...but in the mean time what are we doing with that money?

And unlike some who will sing and dance and throw a once in a decade party if we make the playoffs, I don't want the playoffs to be our goal. WINNING the Super Bowl is our goal! Hoarding almost $50mil in cap space isn't the best way to get it done!

I think that we have to focus on improving a little bit each year.

We invested in a Franchise QB, and reality is we don't have a lot of weapons to help him be great. Adding 2 weapons at WR that should play early on will go a long way towards helping Mariotta achieve his full potential.

The defense isn't perfect, but you can't get everything in 1 off-season. We got a CB in the 1st round. We got a decent one via FA. There are still some things we need to shore up, but I like my team.

I don't think our defense will be great by any means, but I'd be surprised if we don't see a noticeable improvement.

Seems like everyone thinks the defense is going to absolute garbage and I really don't get it. For a few reasons...

    1. Our defense wasn't really that bad last year. It was mediocre with a few really solid performances and one of the top pass rushes... and when you consider the players we had in our secondary, I'd say we did about as good as any team could with that garbage.

    2. We have added Ryan and Jackson. I'm not locking Jackson in as a huge impact player at CB as a rookie because I think it'll take him some time, but I don't see how he could be any worse than McCain or Blake. Then we have Sims who seems to be coming along well. All the sudden I'd say our CB depth isn't that bad. Only time will tell. But last year it was flat out atrocious from start to end. We all knew for a fact it would be garbage.

    3. With all the weapons we've added, our offense should be able to put up more points and improve ball control. This obviously helps the defense.

Put Ryan and Jackson on last year's team and I'm pretty sure we win a couple more games.

You've entitled to your opinion, but it seems illogical to me. Moves were made both during FA and the draft, and more will be made before deciding the final roster.

I look forward to seeing how well the Titans fare this season, and am optimistic based upon what I've seen so far.

With the changes in offense made during the offseason I expect a more dynamic style of football than we've seen in Tennessee to date. How that translates to wins/losses will be fun to watch.

My suspicion is plan A was a trade down to get Cleveland's #12 and #33 for our #5. Cleveland can now get their QB, Trubisky... As we all know, da Bears blew the lid off the draft and possibly our plan A when they went and got Trubisky. Robinson had to revert to plan B, or maybe even C, which excluded that #33 pick. My bet is it was a CB. Or, maybe they want to give Sims a longer look, as he clearly improved with each game last season... The truth is no CB is gonna shut down all these stud WRs these days; at least if we have 1 or 2 ourselves we can reasonably compete on the scoreboard. And our ST is now far more potent, both on offense and defense.
