Defense is gonna be just as bad next season

Wasn't Desmond King the Thorpe winner last year? Where did he go in this draft? Revis is a shade under 5'11. Adoree is just about 5'10. Revis had 20lbs on him coming out...which is a lot when they have less than an inch between them.

On the other hand, none of that means Jackson can't play. He's one of the few cb's who has real ball skills and that does include high pointing the ball. I'm most concerned with Jackson's rawness and his short arms than anything else. He has the speed and athleticism and upside to be as good as anyone. But he's not like Lattimore...a guy you can slot in at #1 cb from day 1. He will compete with Sims, but we don't have too many other choices other than to throw him into the fire...whether it be a #2 outside or nickel.

One thing that will be extremely important this year will be how much scheme-wise we play like last year. If we play a ton of man with single high, Sims better be ready to roll from day 1. If we play a lot more zone, Adoree can make a bigger impact right away. We need to miz up our coverage a lot more this season and HOPEFULLY go to more of a zone blitz scheme.

No. Revis probably has 3/4" on Jackson but he's not 2"s taller. But Revis is a good example that height isn't everything. But Jackson is a lot lighter so he's not gonna be able to play the way Revis did. I think he can be a shorter Mike Haynes type CB. Not sure if you're old enough to know who Mike Haynes was.

So who's been our DC if it hasn't been Tricky Dick the last 2 years?

Asante Samuel was 511 185lbs. Adoree Jackson's play style reminds me of Samuel... and Samuel was a top 5 Cb for years. Crazy good ball skills, playmaker. Got beat time to time, but I would have loved to have Samuel on Titans and he did not have Jackson's long speed either. Now we have someone that can run with Fuller and TY.

    So we add...

-Logan Ryan, by far a huge upgrade at CB over McCourty.

-Draft Adoree Jackson in the 1st round who is a stud with amazing athletic ability and a great mentality when it comes to the game.

-Sign a run-stuffing SS and another lineman who can rush the passer.

    We lose...

-Jason McCourty, who was not good last year.

    Umm....

Oh, and Austin Johnson will continue to progress and Kevin Dodd should be healthy. Just a couple 2nd rounders that should produce more.

He was a big part of getting us to our 9-7 record, what am I missing here?

The only thing that is disappointing for me is that we did not address the defense enough for me. Needed another corner and could have used a defensive lineman

He said we should count on LeBeau to make our secondary better, what's he been waiting for?

Considering the trash we had last year he was a miracle worker. You can't wave a magic wand and fill all of our holes overnight.

It would appear that the game plan, after investing in Mariota with the #2 pick overall, was to build up the offense around him with beefing up the Oline, developing a stout run game and now this year getting him some weapons. We should have a top 5 offense with a lot of young talent.... as long as Mariota is back 100%.

If that ends up being the case, then getting the last couple of pieces on defense next year should be a piece of cake. That's really when we should be ready to take that step to being a perineal contender.

If you thought we were going to go from the worst team in the NFL to SB contender in one or two off seasons you need to put down the crack pipe. So far we've progressed faster than expected. You can piss and moan all you want but I'm pretty happy with the direction this team is headed. Sure beats going into a season expecting no more than 2-3 wins.
