if i had to break it down even more, ...when you have actual needs... then no, a TE @5 should not even be an option

The Titans use their TE a ton and OJ is perfect for the system.

But we have an excellent TE and we don't have even a good ILB and weak CB's. I agree TE at 5 shouldn't be considered.

ILB shouldn't be addressed at 5. Plenty of guys who can fill that position at 18 or later.

Drafting strictly for need which you seem to be a big fan of is not the best choice

Some of these lists with 9 or 10 guys don't make sense but if they do we need to trade back with 5 or up with 18.

I think Howard makes good sense at 5 because he is so diverse. He can play inline, slot or wide and has WR speed (40 time) and agility (3-cone) at 6'6 (good hands as well). Basically he is a freak and with some refinement could be an all-pro type guy. In 4 years or so he might be the best TE in the NFL.

Thus the usual TE isn't worth it might not apply to him and I'm not sure there are any WRs worth the #5 either. Now the startegy could be to skip TE and WR and then get the best available at #18. Might not be Howard but one of the better Wrs some have listed in the top 5 category could be there and the kid from Miami looks like a viable prospect.

Thing is ILB might not be the best value unless the guy is super special. Foster is not because he isn't smart enough. So then I lean on getting Howard at 5 and an ILB at 18 where we have a few viable options.

The startegy I might like better than any but not real popular is to get Howard AND a WR at #18 if one drops we like. Certainly it makes sense if Davis or Williams fall to us.

We don't need a CB as bad as people think and we can get one of those in the 3rd or 4th (we did sign a high quality starter). Same with ILB which is the biggest need IMO but we have Cyp and Searcy who IMO are going to play a bunch in 3 safety sets or Big Nickel.

Walker basically plays Slot WR or a Move TE role. Hardly inline anymore

It's all about who's available and how they value who is there.

We just signed 1 good CB, improved safety. Our ILBs. Can stop the run and Cyprien can probably play LB in certain passingly packages. Delanie going to Be 34 and the Titans use 2 TEs a lot. Drafting ILB at 5 isn't a very valuables pick either. If they see lattimore as worth #5 then yes that pick makes sense. If not, go TE, if they love Howard. Hopefully trade back and take him around 10.
