Davis smokes Sojourn Shelton in the Wisconsin game, and we know Shelton ran a 4.5 at the combine.

So if I had to guess Id say its safe to stick at least a 4.5 forty on Davis' name....

Its a good idea ONLY if we use him

we rarely throw the ball to the other TE's not named Walker

but I am a fan of OJ

let me ask you this? say we took him at 5, what kind of production would you expect from OJ as a rookie?

Hunter Henry had 36 receptions, 478 Yards and 8 TDs... taken at pick 35.

If Howard could get into the 650-700 yard range and those same TDs... along with being a key run blocker (those uncharted stats) I'd be fine with the pick.

Another thing that doesn't show up in stats will be how he influences defenses, helping our WRs/TEs, as well as our Run game and pass blocking when needed.

Blends together the 11 and 12P. Wing TE in shotgun/Spread looks... on the line in UC formations... motion/interchangeability with him and Walker flipping roles to confuse defenders.

That's like double the productivity that Howard had in any single season in college. Not to say he can't handle a heavy workload, but I need a little more assurance before betting #5 on it. There's a good reason there are so few elite TEs around.

    He posted a 45/595/3Td line.

We could use him in a similar way and get those numbers... we could also ask him to run a few more routes and get more yards per catch by running him down the seam a bit more.

There's no doubt that Howard would make a massive mark on our team.

Blame his OC not Howard. College production is a factor but it hardly tells the entire story especially in this case.

McShay has Howard #4. Weren't we just talking about him being around #15 and possibly there at #18 a month ago?

I think this pick just makes so much sense.

If we are going to be a power run team, we are going to be two TE much of the time.

It only makes sense for those TEs to also be a focal point of the passing game.

It would make us very multiple. Can run or throw out of the same personnel groups. Play action would become lethal.

The patriots showed what it could be. Of course, one of them turned out to be a serial killer, so it didn't work out long term.

It would establish our identity. And make us very hard to stop. Most defenses are built small and fast. They would not like four quarters of trying to tackle Henry, Walker, and Howard.

Draft a speed freak receiver later in the draft as a complimentary threat on the outside. Boom. Offense complete.
