I rated it bullsh*t because you just threw stuff at the wall without anything to back it up.

I agreed with you on both the Jags and Eagles having solid off-seasons, I just wouldn't write them both in the SB because of these moves. Jeffery could easily miss half the season with his history, and the Eagles know that. The contract was definitely a good one, but how much impact will he really make this year? That's why Philly protected themselves long term.

I had more written about the Jags, but edited that out for lengthiness. But basically I was going to say they made great moves for the rest of the team, but it really all comes to if Bortles can learn to be a real QB or not.

But come on... The Panthers and Colts were not big winners this year. The Panthers resigning Peppers is nice, but he's not the Peppers of yore. Losing Kony Ealy was dumb IMO, and Charles Johnson's injury is news because he's failed to be healthy for years now. And Cam had surgery on his throwing shoulder. In March. That's a far cry from Marcus having a broken leg in December. Marcus will be 100% by the time summer camp starts, Cam is already questionable for camp. That's not good at all for them.

As for the Colts, Sheard is a solid player, and Margus Hunt is just a big body, but a complete bust in Cinci. John Simon was roleplayer in Houston (a good one to be fair) same with Aiken, and the 3 TN cast offs they signed. But none of those guys add up to a great team. They're just another guy to fill a spot. The Colts did not get better so far.

So all total, there's maybe 3 or 4 teams that actually, legitimately got better on paper than TN. Not the 12 you mentioned. The offseason is tough as hell, especially this year with the amount of money it seems like everyone had. We've done well, enjoy it a little.

Think about it another way, look at all the teams in the playoff hunt at the end of last year. Which of those teams got better? Pats, the Phins, and Oakland (except we stole their star special teamers :) ).

I think one thing people aren't taking into account is the identity this is helping to give the defense. We saw it last year with the additions of Jones, Conklin, Murray, and Henry on offense; these guys want a physical team. Cyprien lays down some monster hits and is a very physical player, and Ryan is one of the more physical CBs in the league. And people love to complain about their shortcomings, but both have been very successful in the league (look past Cyprien's first few season's; he was miscast as a FS).

Not a flashy offseason, but I think we are set up well for the draft. There are tons of defensive players who can make up for the lack of coverage talent that Cyprien has, and allow him to be one of the best box safeties in the league, which he was last year. A talented CB, and say Foster in Round 1, and this is now a defense that has very few weaknesses, and a lot of big hits.

I trust the process. I have been high on all of J-Rob's FA signings. I wouldn't have minded in the slightest if he had overpaid for someone like Gilmore, but NE locked him up, and nobody else was worth overpaying for. He's likely going by the same algorithm that the guys in NE did-build a roster that is solid from #1-53. You overpay for a 2nd tier FA, it will hurt you in the long run. There isn't a single person that J Rob drafted that I don't believe won't make it in the league, and I expect the same this year. A lot of talent in NE was found far later than the 1st round.

lol, since when is not trading away your 1st round pick considered a free agency win?

Not being physical enough wasn't our problem in the secondary last season though. It was not being able to cover anybody.

I only suggest that because the titans were mentioned so often in trading away a first for cooks. I'm glad we didn't.

    AFC SOUTH

    Favorite: Houston Texans

J.J. Watt comes back to front a defense that just finished No. 1 in total D without its three-time Defensive Player of the Year. I'd feel a bit better if Tony Romo was the starter, as opposed to Tom Savage. And that definitely could still happen. But if not? Well, at least Savage and Bill O'Brien will be on the same page, something that definitely wasn't the case with Brock Osweiler.

    Top contender: Jacksonville Jaguars

I loved the signings of Calais Campbelland A.J. Bouye. The defense will be much better in 2017. And now, they actually have a real head coach in Doug Marrone

First of all that's not necessarily a "who got better in free agency" peice, it's who he thinks will win the division.

And if you look at it that way it's still a very lazy piece because it's not like the Jags D was bad last year, and neither team has a QB who has won more than 5 games in a season. If Houston gets Romo (and he stays healthy) they're the favorites. But without him, yeah they'll have the #1 yardage defense again because others teams won't have to drive very far after they've murdered Tom Savage.
