WR, TE2, RG (unless we're cool w Kline?), ILB, depth at OLB/DL, & S (if not happy with Searcys play).

Really the only position we could spend big on is WR & S in FA if we didn't target a CB1.

I can see Trumaine resigning, Rams don't have any picks and can't afford to lose a starting corners. Bouye probably resigns w Joseph getting up there in age, not sure of Houstons cap space. I think our best bet is Gilmore, he's had amazing and **** play over the last couple years. New staff in Buffalo, they have some other cormers, could see them letting him walk if he gets big $$ offers. Issue is, are we okay offering big cash to a roller coaster of a player?

I think Jefferson or Church will be more realistic than Berry. Both are upgrades over Searcy.

Some of your comments are not attributable to me. I didn't say every player had to be replaced by a super star. I didn't say we should blow the cap. I didn't say their is a player we should get and give him a record breaking contract.

I agree that getting free agents doesn't guarantee success...nothing does. And we've seen many examples of players moving from one team to another and not being as good. But there are examples of players doing as well or better too. The Giants are a good example of that. Jenkins and Vernon stats wise weren't as good, but the impact they had on the defense as a whole (along with other additions like Eli Apple) moved them from one of the worst pass defenses in the league to one of the best. They overpaid for Jenkins and drastically overpaid for Vernon...but the results were there this year.

I don't think Aj Bouye is a superstar player, nor Ryans or Leary or even Eric Berry for that matter. All are good to very good.

Again, people act like we are going to cut McCourty without having a replacement for him. Unless he knows that he likely isn't in our plans and wants out, we won't cut him without a replacement and theres a good chance we keep him til after the draft (when we know what we'll have).

We have a ton of cap space and can carry all the big contracts we currently have. But it is likely some or all of them are replaced with better players thru fa or the draft. Maybe not all...but certainly some and it already sounds like McCourty sees the writing on the wall. What becomes of it, we'll see.

But the point is, we could easily sign Berry, Bouye, Ryans, and say Leary for less than $40mil. Berry is a very good player, but he's not Ed Reed. Bouye is a good CB but doesn't walk on water. He's young and good and takes him away from a divisional rival (nice bonus). Ryans is a very solid CB who is a great tackler, high effort player who can play nickel and outside. Again, not a superstar player. Not like either had 8-10 picks last year...or ever. Leary hasn't been a full time starter for a few years so won't break the bank.

If we spend even $40mil (adding a few backups), we still have about $30mil left which could be $50mil left if we replace some of the overpaid guys who we are replacing. Having $30-50mil in cap space is not what I call blowing the cap!

I disagree. We could spend big at WR, S, CB, ILB, 2 OG, OLB, TE.

Rams have about $40mil in cap space. Do they want to reward Johnson for having a down season? If they can parlay his season into paying him less, good for them. But he's not gonna be cheap. Is he worth 25% of their cap space?

Texans are in worse shape. They have about $25mil in cap space. If Bouye commands let's say $12mil, that's half their cap. Do they cut Joseph to save $6.5mil to pay Bouye and replace him with Kevin Johnson? Possibly. But what the heck do they do with Osweiller who's chewing up $19mil of their cap and it would cost them MORE to cut him? If they cut or trade Osweiller, they'll have even less cap to play with. Might need to try and trade Osweiller to get in the Romo sweepstakes or trade for Garrapolo and get whatever - if anything - you can get for Osweiller. Mess up your cap this year but get a starting QB should be done at all costs. They can ride with Jackson and Joseph and Johnson and then draft a couple of cb's in 2018.

I think Gilmore will hit free agency. Jenkins having a bit of a roller coaster resume himself, getting paid by the Giants, and playing well will help Gilmore's case. But it's a definite risk!

Might be better off spending free agency dollars elsewhere (not on risky guys) and draft whatever we don't get.

Not only should McCourty be cut, but If I is I'm willing to bet he doesn't get signed by another team during the offseason.
