If you want to just go by that stat, I see where you're coming from. But...

If you go back to Munch's last season, we were like 7-9 with a large portion of the season played with a backup QB. So the talent was there to be at least 8-8.

The roster has only dramatically improved since then, so if you go by talent this team is MUCH better than Munchaks last roster so this team should be better than 8-8.

Dropping down to almost no wins was more a reflection of the coaching staff than the talent on the roster.

If Munchak was a bad coach, how did he get so many more wins with a inferior roster? Either Munchak was a good coach to get more out of that roster or we have a much better roster still being held back by the coaching staff. One point to illustrate this is the difference in QB play. Look at Locker and his backups numbers versus Mariota. How much better would Munchaks team have done if he had this level of QB performance?

Dropping to no wins was also a reflection of the roster. How can u say otherwise? RT Poutasi, RB group of Sankey/Andrews/McCluster.. awful

I think Strunk will feel the franchise is headed in the right direction mainly because of the growth of Mariota as much as winning more games.

Not that I think munch's roster was great but I dont think this roster is good enough for 8-8 or better. Preseason I had this team winning 5 or 6 games.
Dropping to 2 n 3 wins was a reflection of everyone top to bottom. Change in ownership, bad GM, a resigned/interim president, a bad HC, and a bad roster all played parts.
Much like mularkey, I don't think munch was a good hiring in the first place.

If CJ didnt quit on us after he got paid he may have kept Munch around longer than he needed to be.

He was getting this year AND next year no matter. He could lose the next 4 and he will still return.
This team has shown vast improvement and everything about it is headed in the right direction.....the players "buying in", the culture change, the handling of the players, the record......
I don't understand why there is still a question of if he will be here next year.

I don't get what's so hard about seeing the trend. We go from 3wins to 6 wins (probably at least 7 wins) is a good improvement. We will expect more improvement next year ... if we are at 6-6 this time next year, I don't think anyone will be happy.

Munch was fired for lack of progression (like mentioned before), but also due to how we ended that final season. After starting out 3-1, we won 2 out of the next 10 games. We only got to 7 wins because we beat 2 terrible teams in games that meant nothing to close out the season.

On the Flip side, this team started out 1-3, but has been improving and fought back to 6-6 ... again, all about trend. We are giving every indication that we will continue to get better. if we stop improving, or actually decline, then some one will be on the hot seat

We went from #1 overall pick, to being in the middle of a dog fight for 1st in the division. even if we don't win it, that is a huge difference. however, the expectation will be to win it next year ... if we can't start beating divisional opponents regularly next year, Mularky could very well be on the hother seat

Then how did Munchak win 7 with a worse roster? Try comparing the rosters...

And it was the GM and HC that drafted Poutasi and decided to start him at RT. That's on the coaching staff putting players in positions to FAIL instead of succeed! Notice we took a player in what - the 3rd round and set him up to fail. Meanwhile, this year, we grabbed some guys who were nobodies and got them to play decently if not better.

No one thought Whiz would be out so fast considering he had a 5 yr contract and a rookie QB coming from a Spread offense!!!

So how are we progressing against our division opponents? How many years in a row have we lost to the darn Colts? We are progressing in wins because of Mariota, a strong run game, a pretty solid OL, DW, and a gelling WR corps and solid defensive coaching despite huge holes on defense and ST has been an achilles heel for YEARS!

You suggest if we have a bad division record Mularkey could be on the hot seat. Why does he get a pass for the same thing again this year as last year...despite much better talent?

So regarding the closing out the season poorly, that was my point. If we get blown out by Denver and KC, barely beat a very bad Jags team and lose (read get swept) to the Texans (AGAIN), isn't that finishing the season poorly and only beating a terrible Jags team? And then you look back at how we SHOULD have lost to a woeful Bears team and you start to wonder how much have we improved.

Have we merely improved into a never ending mediocrity (something a lot of people were afraid of with Munch) because we have too much talent to be aweful, but not good enough coaching to compete with the Big Boys? That is the question...

Why wait another year to find out? We will know over the next 4 games the answer to that great Clash song..."Should he stay or should he GO now?"
