Very true. That said, look at one of Belichick's favorite formations and how his OC utilizes it vs our 'box of rocks IQ' offensive coordinator.

2 WRs, 2 TE, 1 RB, and QB under center

Now think about why Brady excels; its more than just skill, its the familiarity/trust with receivers. Obviously any QB comparison against Brady will have them coming up short, which is why its frustrating to see our offense focusing on passing in a way that doesn't compliment the QB's youth/skillset/smaller stature, the receiving corps playmaking abilities, or their level of familiarity with 'exotic smashmouth'.

PA passes (or even just standard drop backs) out of this formation are all about 3 or 5-step drops with a QB often throwing open receivers and precise timing is paramount... with trust and experience between WR/TE/RBs and the QB coming in at a close 2nd. Most, if not all, starting QBs in the NFL can make these short to medium throws* (with decent OL protection that is) but learning to trust that your WRs will create that smidgen of space is difficult and only comes with time. Osweiler trying to throw Hopkins open all year is a perfect example of this struggle as well (and he's supposedly an elite WR).

The Patriots can effectively pass so well out of this formation for a variety of reasons, but these are some of the most difficult PA throws to make in the NFL when timing is critical. Yet, the Titans WRs have basically no overlap vs last year and we try and execute difficult timing based routes more often than letting our QB do progression reads.

MM seems to only have this level of trust and comfort with Delanie Walker, and I can't blame him.

I'm not trying to defend any of MM's mistakes that clearly cost the team multiple games this season, but god damn if it isnt frustrating watching them call some of the least optimal plays given our offense's lack of continuity year-to-year and our QBs strong aptitude for reading defenses and making progression throws (something not all NFL starting QBs are equipped to do).

Not sure what's on the cover of Terry Robiskie's playbook, but I'm convinced its this.

    * Except for that next level Tom Brady deep ball that falls perfectly into the breadbasket +30 yards downfield... which is just beautiful to watch.

When a kid first gets a bike, usually training wheels are on. This is the case with MM. He hasn't learned the new system yet, and I believe the coaches are trying to limit his problems with the offense by simplifying it. Asking more right now would lead to MORE turnovers than he already makes. We have a fragile defense, that can't take a lot of pressure. We never seem to get turnovers, heck we haven't even caused a fumble much less recovered one. So it's crucial to keep MM from making more mistakes with INT's, which he did again this week but was bailed out by a penalty. So you call them "least optimal" - I call them anti-turnover. Notice we rarely throw over the middle. Most of his medium stuff is all thrown to the sidelines. Even the INT was over there. So it's that or a deep ball that is overthrown (margin of safety?) instead of being underthrown. Defenses are wise to this, so we have to run the ball for any production. Once we get MM to the red zone, then he is OK (thankfully), and he thrives when he only has to read a short field. Norm Chow got fired for stating that VY could not learn the playbook, so that is why we ran such a simple scheme. MM can probably learn it, but it takes time. The only thing that really bothers me is the missed opportunities given to him. When presented with an easy 3rd and 1, or 3rd and 2 and to miss a wide open receiver is just horrid. We have to stay on the field to protect the defense. Even if we don't score a 3rd down conversion can eat up another two minutes of clock.

This reminds me of a car I once built years ago. I wanted the BEST chassis, so I bought a Lotus Evora chassis. For the BEST power plant, I took the Viper V-10 645hp motor. For a sleek body, I took the BEST, Audi A6. For tires, I picked the BEST, Pirelli P Zero Corsas'. Funny thing, I bought the BEST but when I put it all together, it wouldn't work! Come to find out that EVERYTHING has to start with the power plant. After that, everything else has to compliment that power plant. Even though the Titans have Heisman Trophy winners, #1 and #2 draft picks, they do not compliment each others. Who's to blame? Who ever is building the car.

Building is just one aspect. The car still has to be tweaked and tuned to make it run right. The buzzword now is "complimentary" football, where teams try to put the right players together. Every year you see some high dollar FA go to another team and fail. Then the blame game begins. So picture Jrob as the builder, and Mularkey as the tuner, and hope they have the right knowledge to make it really fast.

But they inherited a piece of S*** car. They have to tie the seatbelt in a knot, there's a spring always poking the B**ls, the shocks are shot, you can't see through the windshield because of a giant crack, and the interior smells bad.

Mularkey can never get a chick with this car.

Edit: Webster was the designer, so he can lick my sweaty n*t s**k.

I recommend you go look at Henry's college tape and Mariota's and you'll see that Bama ran a lot of pistol and shotgun singleback which is all of what Mariota ran at Oregon.
After you watch em both you'll see how they could be one of the GREATEST QB/RB tandems EVER!!!.............but that'll never happen when you have Mularkey and Robiskie as the mechanics. I don't know about you guys but it only took me two minutes of listening to Robiskie talk to figure out he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, and that's being generous.

The titan offence has made some mistakes no doubting that but they have been putting points on the board, however the defence has given plenty of points away as well. The DBs have been bad this season, how would they fair against WRs like JJ, AB and LF if we had to go up against them this season. I watched our defence sack the colts QB in front of the sticks, like it was a major achievement, he didn't give a f**k no one was open and he was happy for 3 points, all he was bothered about was clutching to that ball, in that position they should be forcing the fumble, not giving high fives and slapping arses because they got a sack. Don't get me wrong parts of our defence are good but them parts unfortunately can't compensate for the bad. The special teams are a lost cause as nothing has changed even with the sacking of the coach, hopefully Robinson is tapping one up for next season. There are major positives for the titans this season and they are still a work in progress and the frustrating part is this was a prime opportunity to beat the colts.

Would be pretty sweet if this is what JRob saw too. Idk if a man can plan that far in advanced though. Prepping for Mularky to be fired.
