It wasn't because of max protect. It was because idiot wiz left Mariota in the Dolphags game risking serious injury in a game the Titans had no hope of winning anyway.

Like her pappy before her, loyalty means a lot to Strunk. She kept Underwood for the same reason.

However, I don't think she would call it "stop-gap" even though his contract is shorter than most new HC hires. I've not found how much he's being paid anywhere on the web so assume it might be lower than most as she's still paying Whiz.

That might also be a reason for the shorter contract. If he proves his worth, he'll get paid with a new deal.

We'll never know how many people were considered. If you believe Underwood, a ton were in the mix before a few brought in for interviews.

Whether it's the blind squirrel occasionally finding a nut or not, Robinson appears to be the right choice early in his time here.

Mularkey's hands are all over this offense. I don't know if changing the OC impacts scheme that much.

If Mularkey is stop gap, then I hope Strunk gives Robinson the ability to get his own hire in place sooner rather than later. Mariota needs to play under the same offensive scheme the next three seasons before some major contract decisions are made.

If the team wins 6+ games, I'm fine with Mularkey coming back.

We have MM8 under 4 year rookie deal....I believe he has the skill set to be a very, very good NFL QB....I don't think this system makes use of his particular skill set (insert Taken Joke here), so I would rather cut bait on mulsuky asap....If it were me...it would be Josh McDaniel....

What difference does it make? 3, 6, 8. We don't have enough talent to be a playoff team, and even if we snuck in we aren't going far. Wins this year are not important. Getting MM developed is THE most important thing. FA and the draft can fix other problems.

Getting rid of Mularkey mid season doesn't help much. I let him ride the season out, but would have him gone for a real coaching staff in the off season so JR can get his guy. But I don't see that happening unless they only win another game or two all year. Then AAS would be paying for 3 coaches. I they get 6+ W's this year, I can't see Mularkey being fired. As much as I want him gone.

I've said it before; Mularkey will never win a Superbowl, just isn't going to happen. We already have our QB regressing under him. This orgs end goal should be to win a Superbowl. So why waste time with Mularkey!? Get rid of him, let JR bring his guy in, and the team grow under that scheme for the next couple seasons while JR fixes the roster. In 2-3 years, this team should have about a 3-5 year window to make a run if JR continues to acquire talent as he has.

But again, this will just be prolonged because I'd be shocked if Mularkey is gone next year. God I hope I'm wrong!

Honestly I think the damage is done that Mularkey was hired to begin with. As a bunch mentioned already, switching HC mid-season won't help anyone. We're also in a no win situation where the FO is going to see Mularkey as enough of a failure to get rid of him after this season.
I think the way the team has played thus far is testament to improvement. Whether that is despite Mularkey or caused by Mularkey can be debated, but this lazy FO is just going to see the overall improvement, so Mularkey stays.
Probably should start getting used to it. As a fan, I'm rooting for wins regardless and hoping for the unthinkable, Mularkey's career turns around and becomes successful.
