    MO was never ORIGINALLY in the SEC. They are still learning how tough it is to beat anyone......kinda like OSU losing to an unranked (coaches poll) team.

    Still learning how tough it is to beat anyone? Is that why they won the East in their 2nd and 3rd years in the conference?

    @8and8 @Tuckfro42

    To sum up this argument:

    Suppose there are 100 teams ranked according to some integer x, where n-ary ties are allowed.

    Team A is ranked 50th with x=52, but is tied with 29 other teams. Team B is ranked 80th with x=53.

    8and8: "Team A is 30 ranks higher because numerically Team B is ranked 80th and 80-50 = 30."

    Tuckfro42: "Team A is essentially one below Team B because the set of teams ranked 50th isn't ordered, and therefore there are not necessarily 29 teams ranked between Team A and Team B."

    8and8 is syntactically correct in what he is saying because there is a considerable gap in the numerical values, but Tuckfro42 is semantically correct because the meaning of that gap is negligible due to the nature of the ranking approach.

    I completely understand what he's trying to say but he's wrong in regards to the context for which this is applied.

    You cannot throw all all of the other teams that are tied out the window. The simple fact is there are 127 teams that returned more starters than OSU and 97 that had more than Bama. Even if you apply it as the number of teams between Bama and OSU meaning you throw out all other teams ranked 98, there is still 15 teams between them not 3 as he has argued.

    By saying "3 spots higher" he is being disingenuous about how the rankings work. If this were the AP poll, he would not be saying Bama was 3 spots higher, he'd be saying OSU was 30 spots behind in the rankings because that would be correct.

    Yeah, they only played for an SEC championship immediately after joining. haha

    Same with A&M... both mediocre teams before, then joined the SEC and all of a sudden looked like contenders.

    If OSU beats Michigan (and that's a big if) then I imagine they still get into the playoffs (well, assuming they win the Big 10, which I would think they would, but after getting beat by Penn State who knows).

    The rankings are interesting in that they ignore the strength of schedule. Clemson, while winning some games ugly is still undefeated, and has the toughest schedule -#10. Michigan has the 78th toughest schedule, yet ranks #2, above them.
