This was noted last year, but since it continues, I wanted to comment. Love him or hate him, one thing you can't get around is how accurate this guy is in the RZ. Veterans don't perform like this. It blows my mind how decisive he is, and on target. Sometimes I cringe and go how the hell did he get that ball in there? This is the hardest place on the field to complete passes, yet he excels at it. Amazing. The twitter article reminded me of this. Here is the rest.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Marcus Mariota has struggled with turnovers, particularly at home, in his two seasons in the NFL.

But in the red zone, he’s flawless.

The Titans’ quarterback has completed 40 of 63 pass attempts for 22 touchdowns and zero interceptions inside opponents’ 20. And his 113.8 passer rating in the red zone is second-best in the league since the start of last season, behind only Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.

“Accuracy has a lot to do with that,” Titans coach Mike Mularkey said. “He's very accurate, understands the route concepts, timing of it. Because of his release, there's smaller windows down there, less room to throw it. He gets the ball out quickly before those windows can close. We work them. We work those routes a lot, so it's a lot that goes into it.”

The Titans have scored touchdowns on 12 of 16, or 75 percent of their trips into the red zone, the fifth-best mark in the NFL.

who was the poster that said Mariota's weak arm wouldn't allow him to excel in the RZ at the next level?

I still get hype about that throw to Delanie Walker against the Jags last year when he looked off the safety and pretty much threw a no look pass.

I may criticize a few things about Marcus, but his release and ability in the redzone is money.

Yeah I agree with this. Last season I was very confident when we made it into the red zone. He is pretty damned good when we are within 10 yards of the end zone.

So why is Mariota so good in the red zone???? It is supposed to harder to operate because the field is compressed.

and if he is so efficient in the red zone why don't we pretend on every drive that we are in the red zone and just call those sorts of plays as we move down the field.

Because the defense can spread out more also. And if we fail 3 times in the RZ we can still get 3 points instead of punt

Makes you wonder why we don't stick with more of a quick strike passing attack doesn't it? He has the release and the accuracy and the timing.
