LOL!!! They are trying to explain to a lay person in terms someone not in football might understand. The most important quote for you is this, ""It's kind of like when I'm running some of the routes I'm running I have a choice. If it's one-on-one, I do what I've got to do to get open," Wright said. "I'm pre-reading so I already know and he knows by the look that the defense is in."

Translation is...on SOME of the routes I have a CHOICE (OPTION). He's pre-reading the defense (based on coverage...as I said) and IF it's 1v1, he does what he needs to to get open (run whatever option to get open...which is the purpose of option routes).

These articles are funny. They make it sound like sandlot football!

Baylor has no offensive playbook? They are a joke, right?

Not at all, but that's media spin to draw reaction. So what if Baylor doesn't have an 'official' playbook? They teach plays differently - mostly by concept and learning on the field and in practice. And it works pretty well! And a lot more college teams are following suit (partially because playbooks get leaked and that can cause you BIG problems). That doesn't mean they aren't good.

Teams have taken a lot of pieces from the Run and Shoot and Spread offenses (which they like to publicly bash) and act like having options on a route is total free style. Watch Jerry Rice run some routes and totally set up defenders...and then watch some of the guys that followed him not run it the same way. There is art and science in running routes. You might hear a player described as being good at setting up defenders (see DeAndre hopkins run routes...is that free styling or setting up DB's?). If you think there should only be science, you (and a lot of people) are missing out.

He indeed ran option routes under Chris Palmer all the receivers did, which lead to most of the issues between them and Locker. Under Loggains he ran street-ball.

    Guess you missed this part....

"Under the previous coaching staff, Titans wide receiver Kendall Wright was given unique freedom to run routes the way he saw fit, as long as he ended up at the right place at the right time.

I understand what it says. More importantly, I understand what it means. I'm not sure you do (and you probably feel the same vice versa). But that's ok. We can agree to disagree. If the above post doesn't enlighten you, it's pointless to keep going.

Back to who should be our next HC...

I have been tolerant of him but a first round pick that is committing penalties left and right finally costs us a game. That is where i draw the line, that penalty cost us the team a game. If he learns from this all is well but by the looks of it i think he is going to continue to do the same thing.

You can't pick and choice select pieces to support your argument. An option route is a pre-determined read on the defense that dictates what route you are going to run. Your are correct under specific coordinators we ran option routes.

he said. "I don't want the cornerback to get his hands on me, so I still give a little something so they can't mess up the route. It's all working out." <--- that is not an option route, that is running around defenders

Yet again the words out of Wright's mouth that he was allowed to adjust his routes as long as he got to his spot, this was under Loggains. This was also Wright's breakout year for 1000 yards when Loggains was the OC IN 2013. He has yet to reach that same type of production (injuries aside).

Or it could have been a "lesson learned". That close to the goal, he AND Jones may have thought one good push and we get Sharpe in the end zone. They were both there, but Jones missed the pile. Not exactly being a sprinter, and weighing over 300, things changed by the time they got there, and it was too late for him to pull up. Jones managed to miss the pile, but Lewan went over it, thus the penalty. You can speculate all you want. There is no guarantee we score down there. Many teams in the NFL have first and goal and things happen. More penalties, fumbles, etc., etc,. Johnson has a TD but commits a penalty. That was a SURE TD. MM on 4th down had Sharpe at the sticks for a 1st, but went to Douglas instead. Coulda, shoulda, woulda......

It’s fair to say Mariota is struggling at times so far but, as many have pointed out, he’s not getting a lot of help from an underperforming WR group.

It’s expected Mariota would see a big drop with Walker out but let’s examine what having Wright back will do to impact his game.

A quick look at 2015 when Wright was on the field:

    @ TB - 101 receiving yards including a 52-yard TD
    @ CLE - 17 receiving yards
    IND - 95 receiving yards, 1 TD
    BUF - 29 receiving yards
    MIA - 34 receiving yards
    OAK - 19 receiving yards
    JAX - 28 receiving yards

As you can see, Wright had a couple of big games but, on the most part, wasn’t the impact player we’d expect. If you remember, he complained about his diminished role in Whiz’s downfield passing scheme after the Bills game.

I think his style of play works much better with the current offensive scheme but it doesn’t mean he’ll come in Sunday and light things up. I suspect we’ll see a focus on the run game and they’ll bring Wright along slowly.

If he can get back to ’12/’13 form, it’ll give Mariota a solid target in the middle of the field. But that’s a big “if”. We'll find out soon enough.

Do you want to spend the time to see the other WR's stats BECAUSE Wright was on the field?
Personally, I don't need them, I think it's fair just to say that the offense is better with him on the field.
