After relentless hounding by a few trolls I thought it was time to interject some fact into the conversation. We are blessed to have a budding superstar and the most complete player at the QB position. Unlike most of y'all, I have followed Mariota since his collegiate career. As a die hard Oregon fan spanning way before JOey Harrington entered the picture, I watched virtually every game Mariota played since he was 18 and saw a ton of tape from high school. He is the real deal in just about every facet of the of the game. But don't just take my word for it.

    Arm Strength

Seems that is a recurrent theme on here with a couple folks. Well let's look at the facts. The throwing motion is a voluntary motion which means we control the velocity up to a point. In college Mariota was throwing to typically wide open receivers, and some really wide open. It was a product of the Chip Kelly offense and Mariota's mobility. Because of this, Mariota often had the luxury of throwing a softer easier to catch ball. However that doesn't mean he can't bring the velocity. Velocity is the side effect of arm strength. Below is a list of velocities registered by the nAtions top qbs at the nfl combine from 08 to 2016. As you can see, if you go back to 08 and put everyone in order, Mariota's velocity (56 mph)is equal or faster than 78 percent of the field during that time frame. he bested Winston, Flacco and Wilson. And tied Cam Newton. Nuff said. He also hit 59 on his pro day with a Chipped ball. I will post that link as well.

    Intelligence

Is there a trait any more critical than intellect for th success of a QB. Luckily Mariota is blessed in that department as well. Before the 2015 draft everyone was praising winstons IQ. Well luckily they both took the wonderlic. Survey says- Mariota posted a score of 33 beating Winston by 6. And Peyton, and Marino and elway. 33 is the same score Brady made BTW

Jameis Winston reportedly scores 27 on Wonderlic test, Marcus Mariota gets 33, same as Tom Brady during NFL Scouting Combine. | FOX Sports

    Speed

An aspect of his game that so few possess. Sheer speed. Marcus has it. We all have heard of his 4.48/4.52 combine 40. But next gen stats confirm that he was the fastest QB in the league last year and was clocked over 20 mph on 9 different occasions. The next highest QB was, well he was the only one to go over 20 mph. This is the nfl.coms next gen stats, not some fan forum, mind you. He also has the highest madden 2016 speed rating ( not that means a whole lot)

    Release
I don't know if we can officially call him the fastest gun slinger in the league, but he is close. His smooth, lightning fast release is already drawing rave reviews.

He was drawn praise from Demario Murray ( who played with romo who may have the fastest release in the league, mularkey who has seen way too many qbs in his time and Ron jaworski)

    Character

He wrote the book on it. Do I really to post anything on these one. He is the face of our franchise and one we can trust...finally

Sorry to write a novel on the subject but I think it is time to look at the whole body of work. Mariota was drafted by a terrible team, that's why we had that pick. He came from a very different system. He had to learn a new system, play under center and sustain a mid season coaching change. He played just 11 games. He set a rookie passing record for ten Titans and posted a 2 to 1 TD to int ratio. and did this with no receivers and no running game. In the process setting the longest TD run by a QB . All the while, being a perfect gentlemen and working his tail off each day. This kid has never been anything other than class on and off the field. Always takes responsibility for mistakes and gives all the credit to his teammates. Could anyone have done more in the situation he was thrust into. There is a reason why his teammates and coaches love him. No one works harder. And he stays after practice and signs every autograph, I have seen it with my own eyes. Was great in the preseason and will be great going ahead because that is who he is. Let's give this kid a chance. He will be great . Off course we could always trade him to the 49 ers . They would give their whole team plus a 3rd and. 4th round pick for him. Then maybe we could get a QB with a real strong arm. I hear that Jamarcus Russell is available and will play for free lol.

Don't care what he recorded at the combine. Please tell me why his above average "velocity" hasn't helped him throw a deep ball in the NFL?

True fans support MM only a handful of whiney cellar dwellers who would complain if Mariota put too much milk in his cereal.

cause he can't throw the deep ball yet... The point of the velocity score is showing his arm strength isn't the problem.

Too long, but I had some time and read through some (not all, again too long).
His arm strength, that's cool that they tracked his velocity and all that and even used a "chipped ball" but does he have the arm strength to throw the deep ball in the 4th qtr still or is his deep ball a 1st qtr only thing?
Demario(?) Murray may also be mistaken when referring to Mariota's release because he played in Philly last year. That's an entire year's worth of practice and games with a different QB than Romo. That's cool Jaws has his back, but I've seen Jaws endorse some other QB's that ended their career shortly after starting.
Ultimately, he's smart, has good character and appears to be the field general this team has been missing since Stevie Mac.
Who cares what the trolls say? You don't need to justify Mariota to them, let his play do the talking and Tennessee should start racking up some W's with him at the helm.

The ability to throw the deep ball at the NFL level will come as he gets more practice in games. Remember his first year the offensive line had their problems giving him time for the long plays to even develop. He actually reminds me of Joe Montana with many of his positive attributes; high IQ, quick release, great mobility, very accurate, calm disposition, and the ability to improvise. Also, one has to remember he does not have a superstar WR yet to concern opposing defenses. Looking forward to a great competitive season of games. This should be fun !

What? His arm strength isn't the problem, but he consistently under throws the deep pass? Either there's something wrong with the "Velocity Test" or that metric does not accurately measure a player's ability to throw a deep pass.

This is the second time in the last week 2 Titans have been compared to the GOATs of their respective positions. PLEASE STOP. Mariota is a young QB with plenty of time left to prove himself. Maybe compare him to someone playing now would be better.
