This is why Tanney sits and doesn't get reps with the 1st team. Then it would start a controversy. MM does many things well, and brings intangibles to the game that Tanney can't, but for pure passes, Tanney has the better arm.

Arm strength isn't the issue... It's how he throws the football. Lordy

If MM throws a lot of 15 yards and under passes, our WRs will lead the league in YAC. I am fine with that. Besides Randy Moss, I can't remember Tom Brady throwing 40+ yard out routes to any WRs either.

His lack of arm strength would be less evident with an offense that is more drawn to his strengths which is why I think McDaniels would have have been an important get in the offseason.

I don't think he has the strongest arm. And it wouldn't surprise me at all that throwing long and being accurate has gone to his head a lil bit due to some of the bashing that goes on in forums like this one and on talk radio. But in time it's going to improve and in time as long as the offense continues to revolve around him and his lack of strength will be less evident. He has every ingredient maybe other than the long ball to be a successful quarterback in this game and to help make this franchise relevant again. The question is can Mularkey get it out of him. Was never sold that he was the right guy for Marcus. But now that he is here, were going to find out.

Just curious. What qbs inyour opinion have a stronger arm. Young qbs who have been in the league for less than 10 years. There is a reason I ask

Yup, that's why I mainly wanted McDaniels as well. Mariota belongs in a West Coast offense where the WRs mainly run precise and well-timed routes and the QB needs to make good decisions, be mobile, and deliver an accurate ball. Perfect fit for Mariota and our WR core.

For the younger folks, my point is Steve Largent wasn't anywhere near the fastest receiver on the field, however he ran precise routes, great hands & concentration, and yes even for the deep ball. Route running & good hands and the ability to get separation are the most important qualities in a WR.

made the other first team O punt a couple of times.... seems its either a quick TD given up or a 3 and out with this D.

Oh well nothing to get worried about for another couple of weeks
