The coaches keep saying "the best player will play. It doesn't matter where you were drafted or how much you're making..." etc. So that makes me wonder if Tanney has a shot.

Yeah, I saw him scared to pull the trigger on quick passes, flush the pocket at the first sign of pressure, then try to use his 5.5 40 speed to run around in the backfield. He played well for what he is (3rd Qb) against scrubs, but none of that is working against first team defenses.

I always prefer a seasoned vet to be your #2. They don't need a lot of prep to step in.

You are just repeating what other people say. You really haven't watched him. He is not "afraid" he is careful. You don't throw for 14,000 in college by being afraid or scared to stay in the pocket. Most good QB's have a sense of when things are breaking down. If he hadn't of broken the pocket we wouldn't have had a 25 yard pass to Hunter which led to a TD. He looked pretty decisive on his throw to Ellis in the end zone. You forget he STARTED for us last year with one week of practice and looked pretty good, all things considered. He actually hit DGB with a fade route in the end zone, something MM or Mett never did all year. I think you are missing it.

The owners love MM. The only way Tanney gets in is through injury.

Actually he didn't start. He came in the 2nd half after Mett hurt his finger, threw a pick six and looked absolutely worthless.

Also, Mariota threw a fade TD to DGB against the Colts.

But I get what you're saying. I'd prefer Tanney over Cassel honestly. I'd feel much more comfortable with him playing in relief than Cassel.

If more than one person is seeing the same thing, that probably leads to a good predictiin of reality. That scouting report was completely of my own visuals. I'm not saying he didn't do alright when he played, I'm saying he was up against guys that probably aren't making an NFL roster, and didn't look impressive at all. Also that what he did do well is probably not going to translate against first team defenses.

You can't base an entire line of thinking on one game either, or Matt Flynn would be on his way to the HoF right now. Most qbs do pretty well in their first start because the defense doesn't have any film on them to break down.

Give me Cassel at #2 qb every damn time and especially Sunday's.

10 of 14 for 99 yards, 1 TD, NO interceptions, and a QB rating of 114.9 - that's your evaluation of worthless?

    He is 18 of 27 for 170 yards, 1 TD, no INT's.

Yes, these are 3rd stringers, but our players are too. What I am saying is that he has awareness and accuracy. He puts the ball on the numbers 90% of the time. He doesn't throw in the dirt or a mile over their head. I also understand that DC's in this league catch on pretty fast. I am basing everything I say on what I have seen so far. Maybe his ceiling is lower than MMs - I don't know, but I would like to see more.
