The critics in the media doubted Delanie Walker when he came here. I remember the Rotoworld guys saying that he was a terrible receiver, and kept harping on how many drops he had, and would just be a decent blocker for us at best. Now he's by far the best weapon we have on our offense.

For some guys, coming to a new team and getting the opportunity to shine is all they need. For others, it doesn't work out. Who knows, but I do like what Matthews brings to the table. He could absolutely be the reliable chain mover that Marcus needs, and someone for our extremely young receiver group to look up to.

If this team actually opens the season with Tajae Sharpe as a starting WR...

That's been his history. In college only one of his receivers ever made it to 1,000 yds, and only one year.

And if he ends up being the reliable #1 WR we have desperately needed over the years, does it really matter who steps up too the plate?

No it doesn't, but to believe a 5th round WR is ready to start day one....grim situation my friend

    i
grim situation to have a 5th round WR exceeding expectations or to see 1st and 2nd round WR's underperforming?

We drafted mostly high football iq, hard working, good character guys with zero off the field concerns. Majority of them have had to work for everything they've earned as underdogs(Conklin, Dodd, Byard, Sharpe, Sims, Reed). Im not going to be surprised if alot of them seize the opportunities given to them when the time comes. Its alot easier for Sharpe because of how lackluster the Wr group was last year.

Sounds a lot like Jake Locker. And he's arguably the worst 1st round pick the Titans ever had. That's not always the recipe for a elite player. Which is what an #1 receiver would be. Elite talent.

Nobody is saying they wouldn't be happy if Sharpe ends up that #1 WR this team needs. If he does, it's lit.

But you can't blame people for not expecting a 5th round small school guy to come in and go off like top 10 player at his position.

If Tajae Sharpe does get the top spot, you know what it will make me think of more than "we might have found our #1 WR"?

It will make me think of last years running back position. An UDFA beat everyone out. Did that make Andrews the franchise back we've been missing since Johnson's baller days? No, just meant he was the bread from a **** sandwich.
