Ok, but does that have anything to do with LeBeau being here? We switched to a 3-4 two years ago.

The God Father of the 3-4 is in our QB's ear helping him identify fronts and thats not a good thing to you?

Those good defenses couldn't even exist as they are today without Dick LeBeau being around the league. We're not talking about some run of the mill DC here Fry, otherwise Id side with you on this, but we're talking Dick LeBeau.

It has to be good. Reading defenses is the key point that he can get from Lebeau. As Fry stated, the defense isn't very good, neither is the offense, but be able to READ the defenses should help. Now, whether either side can actually perform what they're expected to is a completely different discussion.

I think the only way this could hurt Mariota would be if the defense out performs the offense so badly that Mariota loses confidence. Not just in his offensive teammates, but if he sees that as a sign he needs to do everything.

I doubt LeBeau is in any of the meeting rooms helping him watch film. Dude has a defense to run.

Who taught this defense to Ray Horton, who successfully coordinated defenses in two different places? Dick LaBeau. Didn't seem to help much.

I'm not even saying it isn't a good thing. I just think when the poll is 20-1 that some people are probably overvaluing it. It's definitely not bad, but its quantifiable benefits are miniscule.

How much is LeBeau really going to help the offense when Sunday afternoon comes? Probably very little.

You guys are really overestimating what a DC can do. Pittsburgh's defense dropped to the middle of the league in 2014 and had a lot of issues creating turnovers and getting to the QB. Did LeBeau suddenly forget how to coach, or were the players not as good. I'd say the latter, considering the product on the field in 2015.

Our defenders are not good enough to make the offense lose confidence. There will be some days when the defense wins and some days when the offense wins.

I agree with you, the defense is not good enough for that to happen.
I also agree that Lebeau is not worried about how the offense performs.
I also agree that the help to Mariota is limited but I do think it helps.
Lebeau is going to try and use some of his complex defenses to stop Mariota's offense. Right now, I would argue that neither will perform all that well which is why I think this team is around a 5-6 win team, but Mariota can learn about some of the different defenses that he may see, which can help. I think Lebeau will try to bring something more than just the basics never mind that the talent won't be able to get the job done.

Just because you teach somebody doesn't automatically mean they are going to be as good as you. I thought this was common knowledge. That's like saying Vince should have been as good as Steve cause Steve mentored him.

Horton was successful at his two previous stops as a DC and played in the system. He knows how to run the defense and how to attack it, yet there was no carryover to the offense's performance.

How much is Rex Ryan helping his offenses? I think we can all agree that he is a great DC and has a great mind for defensive football, but his offenses are abysmal.

Not sure how much Rex's defense helped, but the Jets did go to back to back AFC Championships under his watch. Each year afterwards, the offense got less and less weapons for Sanchez or the offense to succeed.

Thanks to a defense that had about seven first round picks on it.
