Not the worst injury news in the world but it is significant. Every part of the off season is so important for rookies IMO. Dodd needs to give us 4 sacks this season to be considered a quality rookie campaign.

4 sacks as early 2nd round pick would be disappointing. Especially since I've seen a few people say it was a great pick cause he has 1st round talent.

If Jacob Ford back in the day could find a way to get 7 sacks as a 6th round pick rookie in a rotation. Then Kevin Dodd should be able to match that or get at least the very least 6.

Top 50 picks, pass rushers: [looking at DE & OLB]

    2014 class:
Anthony Barr had 4 sacks as a rookie, 3.5 as a sophomore
DeMarcus Lawrence posted 0 sacks as a rookie but posted 4-5 sacks in the playoffs [and came on strong with 8 sacks as a sophomore]
Kyle Van Noy posted 0 sacks as a rookie, 1 as a sophomore
Stephon Tuitt posted 1 sack as a rookie, 6.5 as a sophomore
Trent Murphy posted 2.5 sacks as a rookie, 3.5 as a sophomore
Jeremiah Attaochu posted 2 sacks as a rookie, 6 as a sophomore

    2013 class:
Ansah posted 8 sacks as a rookie, 7.5 as a sophomore, 14.5 in year 3
Mingo posted 5 sacks as a rookie, 2 as a sophomore, 0 in year 3
Jarvis Jones posted 1 sack as a rookie, 2 as a sophomore, 2 in year 3
Werner posted 2.5 sacks as a rookie, 4 as a sophomore, 0 in year 3
Datone Jones posted 3.5 sacks as a rookie, 1.5 as sophomore, 3 in year 3
    [what an abysmal class lol]

    2012 class:
Bruce Irvin: 8 sacks as rookie, 2 as sophomore, 6.5 in yr 3, 5.5 in yr 4
Quinton Coples: 5,5 as rookie, 4.5 as sophomore, 6.5 in yr 3, 0 in yr 4
Melvin Ingram: 1 sack as rookie, 1 as a sophomore, 4 in yr 3, 10.5 in yr 4
Shea McClellin: 2.5 as rookie, 4 as sophomore, 1 in yr 3, 0 in yr 4
    Chandler Jones: 6 as a rookie, 11.5 as sophomore, 6 in yr 3, 12.5 in yr 4
Donta Hightower: 4 as rookie, 1 as sophomore, 6 in yr 3, 3.5 in yr 4
Whitney Mercilus: 6 as rookie, 7 as sophomore, 5 in yr 3, 12 in yr 4
Nick Perry: 2 as rookie, 4 as sophomore, 3 in yr 3, 3.5 in yr 4

So of the 20 or so players analyzed from the last 3 draft classes, 2 posted more than 6 sacks as a rookie[1 being Bruce Irvin who's rookie campaign was his best]. In most cases, pass rushers grow in years 2-4, which is very evident here when looking at Chandler Jones, Ezekiel Ansah, Tuitt, Attaochu, Demarcus Lawrence.

Just for the sake of drafting a CB?

No, because we need a starting CB more than we needed a depth LB in my opinion. Though, the front office thought otherwise.

Or they just had Dodd rated higher than any CB on board. A ton of CB talent went day one which probably played a role in that decision.

Bingo...nobody at CB second round was a hands down starter....so do you take a pass rusher that fits your scheme and was a possible first rounder that slipped.....oooooor a what if CB?
