    Full mediocre/average backfield...unless you're good with that?

Rather give Sims and Reed a chance over a guy off a blow knee. Kalan Reed was respected coming into the draft, a lot of love for Mr. Irrelevant to get a chance to work his way into a nickel package player.

Give him a 1 year, incentive laden deal. If he can't beat out our rookies, Brice McCain, and any of the other scrubs we had on the roster last year, then cut him in camp.

Just make the incentives pretty significant to give him a reason to come here.

That's been our problem for years. Drafting late round CBs hoping they can give us Samari Rolle type production, but it's just not working.

I'm all for letting the little guy work his way up to the top, but it's just not happening as of late in the CB position.

We may have to wait until next year and take a CB with our 1st or 2nd pick.

I understand. In the past that hasn't worked out, but paying a guy for a one year deal now is a knee-jerk signing. Guys are going to get cut in the next month or so lets wait for a good fit. I believe in Dick and our coaching to bring that top 10 scoring D back. And with these off-season additions and more confidence with another year under the system it is 100% possible.

That's not entirely true, late round picks 4+ the Titans have got some solid DB's (that left).

    2015-No DB drafted at all
2014-Marqueston Huff SS only DB drafted (4th) - No help to CB
    2013-was a 3rd but I'll throw him in here, Wreh-Wilson and 6th Wooten - Fail
2012-4th rounder Coty Sensabaugh, not a #1 but solid for a slot type roll
2011- 251th pick in the 7th round Tommie Campbell - Fail
2010-Verner (4th) made Probowl, Robert Johnson SS (5th), Rolle (6th) was too smart to play football.
2009-McCourty in the 6th, Schommer not even sure what position he was (7th)
2008-Cary Williams (7th) had a good career after we cut him from our team...

I only counted a handful of CBs in the previous 8 drafts that we took. We also have different coachs, GM, defensive scheme, and such. You want to know what's really killed us? High picks that are busts, we're pretty consistent there.

Hunter, Zach Brown, Mike Martin, Wreh-Wilson, Jake Locker, Akeem Ayers, Damian Williams, Kenny Britt, SenDerrick Marks, Jason Jones, Craig Stevens and the list continues.

You draft like crap at the top, you're team will suck. You can't rely on late rounders but we've got to hit on the first, second, and third rounders to make a difference. It's not like we're getting lots of Free Agents to fill the void either. Go look at the 2010-2015 drafts and it's honestly absolutely horrifying.

Was Culliver really that good with the 49ers? Or did he benefit from Smith/Smith/Willis/Bowman/etc?

PFF review after the 2014 season:

    5. Chris Culliver – Signed with Washington

    2014 Grade: +8.5

    2014 Snaps: 839

A third round selection in 2011, the former Gamecock saw plenty of action as a backup corner in his first two seasons and generally impressed, though he struggled as a starter during the 49ers playoff run in 2012. A knee injury forced Culliver to miss the entire of the 2013 season, and that may have been responsible for some of the rust he showed early in 2014. However, he soon shook off that rust and finished the season as one of our Top 15 cornerbacks, allowing just 37 receptions on 73 targets (50.7%), and holding passers to a 66.5 QB rating.

Culliver is tall enough and fast enough to match up with most receivers, and should draw plenty of attention. He is less proven than some of the others on this list, and there may be some durability concerns (missed two games in 2014 as well as the entire of 2013), but his performances in 2014 make him an intriguing free agent.

However it should be noted that in 360 snaps in 2015 with the Skins, he had one of the worst coverage grades in the league and his overall PFF grade ranked him 110th out of 111 qualifying cornerbacks. Only Brandon Browner graded worse than him.
