With the 8th Pick of the 2016 Draft: Michigan State OT Jack Conklin

Our deal was much better than the Eagles... Eagles didn't give up any seconds (till 2018??), only third and fourths... We got the two seconds.

 

We likely wouldn't have gotten much more than what the Browns got. I prefer what we still have over what the Browns received for #2.

 

This was a fine pick. If J-Rob truly believed Conklin was the guy then we didn't give up too much to move up to that spot. I really like Conklin. Yes, he does have some issues but so does everyone in this draft. He's going to make a really good RT and going to play with nastiness. This dude is a David Stewart 2.0.

 

I was thinking the same thing, a younger "Big Country."

 

I don't see an issue with trading up to 8, they wanted Conklin, needed to get ahead of the Giants to grab him most likely. Sure you gave up a 2 next year, but I'm sure they counter that with having the extra 1st rd pick next year.

I'm happy with the pick...might be even more depending how tonight goes.

He needs to be better than Stewart. Dave Stewart was a 4th round pick. That's real value.

 

decker has very obvious flaws as a pass blocker. He graded out as the 2nd worst pass blocking T in the entire draft by PFF. I've heard people call Detroit's pick of Decker at 16 a bad reach (including PFF). I'm happy with Conklin

 

And I've heard people call Decker a better prospect than Conklin, who some say is an overachiever who may lack the traits to be a top-tier RT.

I dunno. I can't really evaluate OL. We'll see. I sure hope Conklin ends up being much better.
