Exactly, in a division that has 3 other teams with true #1 derpdeep threat WR's and young QB's. We lost numerous games last year from giving up big plays. Get the guy who can help us with that.

Then I'd like to see Vasquez brought in, draft the best RT at #33 and let Vasquez help him out. Then let him have the starting LG spot and the line looks like
Lewan-Vasquez-Jones-Warmack-Rookie. That's a big upgrade over last year with lots of depth, and you still get Ramsey. Plus, that's only one starting rookie, with JR being on record that he'd like a little older of an OL.

That would be my plan. Given JR's resume, I hope he can find one more quality day 1 starter in the rest of the draft. They do that and I'm pretty excited, and cautiously optimistic for next year.

The one thing that contributes to surprise me is everyone who keeps beating the Tunsil drum continues to ignore how many games were lost to big plays, and the WR groups in our division. When in contrast, Houston is the only proven front 7 defense. Jags might be, but sometimes those massive contracts don't work out.

CTF, I don't think anyone is ignoring that. I think most of us believe keeping Mariota healthy and ON THE FIELD for longer increments of time will do more to help a defense that couldn't get off the field on a regular basis at this point in time. Doesn't matter either way if we don't keep Mariota healthy we don't have much else to hang our hat on even with Ramsey. We see things different, that's all.

McCourty is definitely better than average. A definite starter on any team, imo. He just needs to stay healthy in 2016.

McCourty is a nice #2 CB at this point in his career. Still a worthy starter.

As for Vasquez, sounds like Robinson is playing hard ball.

Spain was pretty solid last year and should be even better in Mularkey's smash mouth O. Poutasi may develop as a good G. Warmack is OKAY. Thats 3 G's battling for two. Then you have Bell, which IMO was signed for 1 year as a back up plan in case we don't get the RT we want in the draft.

My point is, JR doesn't want to overpay for Vasquez because technically we don't NEED him. Get good value and let Spain and Poutasi develop some more.

It could be a few reasons. Could be we don't need him as we have about 6 players vying for 3 spots (Warmack, Spain, Poutasi, Jones, Schwenke and Bell if he isn't playing RT). Could be he wants too much. Could be the knee. Could be we want him to compete and play OG or RT and he doesn't want to...or can't.

I think we want him because he's another vet who fits our scheme, has been very good in the past, and can play 3 positions...all of which need competition and RT needs a potential starter and depth. Would give us MORE flexibility in the draft.

I think JR knows the reason(s). But we don't. But fun to speculate!

I don't know that Vasquez is an upgrade. Sure, he made the pro bowl in 2013, but he was blocking for Manning who got the ball out quicker than any Qb in the league. Easier to block for a Qb who gets the ball out in a little over two seconds. Most qbs in the league hold the ball for a little over three seconds before throwing it. That was the season Manning set the single season touch down record. Teams get more media attention when they set records like that, which also gets more of their players voted to the pro bowl. That same Oline got destroyed by the Seahawks in the super bowl.

So at this point Im starting to doubt that we sign Vasquez seeing as its been a week with no movement. If we dont sign him we need to make both OG spots open for competition because Warmack play has been lackluster and his contract is running out. I thought Spain and Bell both outplayed him at times at OG last year but the OL as a whole was playing better at those times so idk

I like the idea of taking the best RT at #33. Makes me feel better about the possibility of not getting Vasquez. I think we're good with Warmack and Spain at G. Let Bell start at RT if we need to let the rookie develop.

Anybody able to compare Spriggs or Decker to Tunsil? Is there that big of a drop off? Is there somebody who'd be a good fit for a smashmouth team looking to run?

Just because we do not draft Tunsil, doesn't mean our Oline is still garbage. Jones, maybe Vasquez and a rookie tackle at #33 is vastly superior than what we had last year. Mariot will stay healthy behind that line. Tunsil makes them a bit better? Yes. But, does Tunsil and a rookie CB at #33 make this team better than Ramsey and RT at #33? No. Rookie CB are a lot harder to get up to speed and playing well than a tackle who has 4 other guys to help him. The drop off between Tunsil and Spriggs or Dekker is a lot smaller than Ramsey and whomever is early 2nd round CB. Ramsey and a RT at #33 makes this team better.
