I know what your thinking, "He's lost it! We have a franchise Quarterback whom most would agree is superior to anyone in this draft. Why would we pick another Qb?".

Okay so the idea is crazy but in the business world you seek out arbitrage opportunities. Rarely do you find such opportunities, most require way too much capital investments and are too complicated to pull off...

With the number one pick I propose we draft Wentz and force Clevelands hand. Everyone knows that Hue Jackson needs a franchise Qb (traded for Carson Palmer in Oakland, tutored Joe Flacco in Baltimore, and helped to develop Andy Dalton and the before mentioned Palmer in his two stints with the Bengals) and he is willing to do whatever it takes to get one. This also increases the bidding for Wentz because everyone knows that you are not going to keep him.

Now there are two big risks if we go this route. The biggest risk is that other teams call our bluff and make us sit on our asset for an entire year. Most people would be calling for the GM's head and understandably so, but if we stick to the plan we will have a guy that we can still flip the next year for multiple firsts. I highly doubt we take it that far but it is a possibility.

The other risk is that we don't get the guy that we graded out as the number 1 guy in the draft, but if we have several players closely rated then this shouldn't matter much to us. The object for us is to increase overall talent on the team. We are still probably two years away from being a legitimate contender and will still be picking in the top ten in next years draft again. If we can add an additional first rounder to next years draft and more picks to the first three rounds of this draft plus quality vets we would be foolish to not force someone's hand.

This is just a cold hearted business move and is unprecedented in the NFL but I would totally do it even with all the risks involved as I do not see a once in a generation talent in this draft.

Or they can say "Lets make the Titans sweat with that QB pick for a few rounds" and end up screwing ourselves

Yeah the other teams would gladly let us screw ourselves over.

I wasn't expecting a different response and I am not saying you should like the idea but even if we somehow got stuck with Wentz for a year the worst case scenario is we flip him for a first and extra picks in next years draft how would we be screwed? We are in no way contending for a title in the next few years. This allows us to build through the draft and keep our talent all together while Marcus develops. I see the likely hood of us getting stuck with the pick at less than 10%. Cleveland would almost certainly give us at least a vet and their 2nd rounder to get him.

If this was a year where a can't miss prospect were their for the taking at 1 I would say just pick him but I don't see anyone that is a clear cut number one.

Again this is a business move not a traditional football move...

Maybe if there was an Andrew Luck or a Peyton Manning or hell even a Winston. And even then, just maybe.

"Oh no, the Titans took Wentz, our QB position is ruined" said no one ever.

They will laugh at us and wait for us to lose all leverage and then they will take him from us at a fire sale price. And that's assuming they want him. If they don't, they stop after laugh at us.

No offense, but there are honestly so many reasons why this is the worst idea imaginable that it's really not worth commenting on.
