The idea of Poutasi (a guard) sliding to right tackle taken that early was insanity. Webster.....smh

I don't know. We fans tend to be overly harsh on every player. The truth is probably somewhere in between. Poutasi was probably taken at about the right spot, and he has the potential to be a solid OG. He did play LT for Utah most of his time, so I cannot blame the team for trying to see if he would work out. It is a bit unreasonable to expect a 3rd Rd draft pick to excel against some of the league's top pass rushers, as a rookie. He might still develop as a solid swing man who can play both positions (OG/OT) well. Only time will tell, but he will probably do well at LG.

Of course Bosa is scheme-versatile in college. At 6'5 and 275lbs, he's nearly DT size in college and much bigger than most 4-3 DE's so he is certainly capable of playing DE in a 4-3 or 3-4 in college....especially given his violent hands and top notch motor. But that's college, not the NFL. And there, as they say, lies the rub.

Even if Tunsil were better than say Okung or Glenn (very debatable), and yes he's a LOT cheaper, but if we can get a great OT in FA, you get him there. FA is for adding elite players when they are young enough and you can get them. Then it is for getting key role players to fill holes. In the draft, you get the best players you can and hopefully manipulate your positioning to maximize value and match that to need.

If we can get Josh Norman at CB, you do it. If we can get an elite OT in FA, you do it! If you can get Eric Berry...you do it. We have a ton of cap space and are a few elite playmakers down from most teams because of it. But that's not a reason to NOT sign an elite OT just to take 1 #1 in the draft. It might be if we were cap max'd but we have a ton of room!

I don't care how many teams didn't draft him. We SHOULD have! Are you saying La'el Collins played 'terrible' for Dallas this season? You watched game tape of every OG and OT in the draft to know they've "all been completely terrible?"

    Somehow, I don't think so...:disappointed:

Tunsil's strength is definitely his pass blocking. He is NOT a drive blocker in the run game. He is a wall off type blocker and has the athleticism to get to the 2nd level and lead sweeps and screen's to the outside.

However, if you watch him vs LSU in 2014, Danielle Hunter gives him some trouble in pass blocking (walking him back to the QB a couple of times and even knocking him on his butt). Vs Auburn, he had trouble with Carl Lawson too who beat him with speed, hands, and change of direction. Tunsil also had some false starts in this game matched against Lawson.

I will watch more tape but he doesn't exactly look like a #1 overall OT so far and he's more of a pass protecting LT than an overall OT who can dominate either side.

Um...we got beat up and down the OL and that includes Lewan, Warmack, Schwenke, Bell, Poutasi, and everyone else. Saying it was only a RT problem would mean we could run to the left side really well, right? Nope.

We had players playing the wrong position (Poutasi, Bell), a bad OL coach as everyone on the OL got worse - not better and were confused far too much as to who to block and how to do it. We also had a playcaller in Whiz who didn't adjust to help the OL out and liked to call 5-7 step drops with a simple 5 man protection figuring the entire OL would hold up.

Coaching and scheme change should fix 50-75% of the problem but we really don't know what we have anywhere on the OL due to coaching, scheme, playcalling problems. Is Lewan an elite LT? Is Warmack a Pro Bowl caliber OG? Is Schwenke a solid starter at OC? Is Poutasi gonna be a solid LG? We really don't know. So the whole line is a bit of a question mark. But we need a RT.

Will it solve the problem? We don't know. But HOPEFULLY the coachintg and scheme will be a lot better and we'll see who can play and how well so we WILL know what OL issues we have!

Most people I know had him in the 5th-7th round. Some places I've seen had him rated as a 4th-5th round prospect. Ostensibly, those people thought he could play OT. Poutasi is a big guy with a huge wingspan but ultimately a lot of poor technique and balance issues. On the upside, if he corrects all of his technique stuff and gets stronger, he could be a powerful OG. But until we have an OL coach who can make players BETTER, it's hard to project him anywhere....yet.

And let's not mince words. No one was expecting him to do well at RT. But you also can't expect him to give up multiple free rushes at your QB every game!!! Bad GM and BAD coaching to think he could plat RT AND leave him out there to block the likes of JJ Watt by himself!!!
