that was an easy one to call, but NFL coaches will always blow their wad for size and speed.

Exactly. Doing it at the next level is a whole different story.

This is a way exaggerated point. The panthers went 17-2 this season with "weak" ots. That's pretty damn good, actually much better than any team wuth "good" ots. Plenty of teams have an elite pass rush and still suck (texans, for one). The broncos benefit greatly from a dominant secondary. The titans have decent des and olbs, we don't need big time or high dollars players there. Our weak spots are all in the secondary. That's what we must fix on d first and foremost.

Well, then...by that logic, we should just skip the draft and save ourselves the hassle. "Because none of them are worth drafting....since they haven't done it at the NEXT LEVEL." That's the best you can come up with? Drafting is ALL about how they project to do at the....NEXT LEVEL.

You don't know that Clowney wouldn't be a Pro Bowl player. He doesn't have just the size and speed. He was a game changer in college. In fact, South Carolina has gone back into the basement of the SEC since he left. Him and Quarles had a big impact on their defense. He still helps make the Texans defense one of the most stout in the league, when he is healthy

certain things are telltales that a guy will bust at the next level. Work ethic is one, Clowney never had it. Also plays LB way too high to last in the NFL. That all showed in his college tape.

I have to respectfully disagree. The first half of the year, despite the fact that our offense was still struggling, we were in the top 10 in pass defense. The last half wasn't nearly as good because we had NO quality depth behind Morgan and Orakpo, and McCourty was hurt most of the time.

We need major help at both position groups. A fierce pass rush can make a decent secondary look great, and a few solid DB's can buy the pass rush an extra second or two to reach the QB. So, it's not an either/or prospect. We are not "good" at either position group...and that is mainly because of poor depth.

Maybe he hasn't made the impact most assumed he would, but he's not a bust by any stretch of the imagination. He ain't JJ Watt, yet, but he is still a guy you have to worry about in the pass rush...and on running plays. He's sort of like Mario Williams...really doesn't shine in a 3/4 where he's asked to drop back into coverage a good bit. They both seem to excel in the 4/3, where they line up wide and pin their ears back > get after the QB.

If anything was a mistake in drafting him, it was taking him that high to play in a system he hadn't played before.

I still think Clowney is gonna turn it around next season. Just needed to get healthy imo. We'll see.

Waaaay too early to call him a bust.

Not if you called it before he was drafted

If he doesn't have a big year in 2016, I could see the Texans trading him to a 4-3 team, where he is a much better fit. We'll see.
