    :bs: and utter conjecture

I could just as easily say 'I gurantee you upper tier athletes are telling their agents to do what they can to steer them TOWARDS Tennessee and Mariota

Are you honestly telling me that if you were in their shoes, you wouldn't be telling your agent to try and keep you out of Tennessee and Cleveland? I would, knowing the HC'ing fiasco which took place.

You know these FA's are doing their homework on teams that are needing players at their position. It's very likely their agents keep them much more informed about each team than any of us or any NFL media pundits are.

We just have an average amount of cap space, and a lot of good NFL teams have as much or more to spend than we do. When you add the fact that this franchise rarely spends big on FA's, chances are slim to none, unfortunately.

I might be way off but I dont think players have near as good a finger on the rest of the league as you believe.. TN is just as good a paycheck as anywhere, jobs are so scarce in this league a jobs a job..

As mentioned before. For SOME players, going to a winning team is more important than a few million. This is usually for players who already got paid on big contracts but never won. But as I've already PROVED to you, your fear is mostly unjustified. First, most of the players who are older vets trying to get on a winning team for one last chance aren't coming here anyway. But even a player like Alex Mack who has said winning is VERY important to him, still signed a deal with the Jags. What does that tell you? Like most players, he wants to get his big contract and will follow the money...even on a bad team!

As for teams having a lot of money...just because they have it doesn't mean they are offering it. Did the Raiders offer Orakpo a huge contract? No. Did we offer Rodney Hudson a huge contract? No, we offered nothing. Did we offer a contract to Wisniewski? No. So it's not like every team with money is throwing money at every free agent. They Aren't.

And according to overthecap.com, we have over $40mil in cap space and the Raiders have about $68mil. We should have had another $4.2mil by cutting Levitre earlier (since we had the cap room to absorb his dead money last year)...Webster strikes again! But after cutting Griff we are at $47mil with another possible $15mil we can get or more when we replace some players with better starters or backups. McCourty has a cap hit of almost $9mil, KW has a $7mil cap hit which we can lower by signing him to a longer term deal, Cox is almost $6mil, and Douglas - Fasano - Woodyard - Pitoitua - McCluster all making between $3-5mil as backups.

Now imagine cutting McCourty and Cox and signing Josh Norman and then filling the other side with Ramsey or Hargreaves or Alexander.

Historically we have overpaid a lot of players...including our own! Is Perrish Cox worth almost $6mil/yr? McCluster or Douglas? Was Griff worth the contract he got and almost got paid every single year of it while being playing avg at best? Were we tight wads with Levitre? Oher? We gave Chris Johnson a huge pay increase while he was years away from the end of his earlier contract. Were we a tight wad with him? So not sure where you are getting this tight wad idea from. Numerous examples of us overpaying both free agents as well as our own. On the other hand, there's a new sheriff in town so it'll be up to Robinson as to how much to spend or not these days!

In a perfect world, every free agent would go play for a team like NE and set new records for the huge contracts they get. But NE isn't breaking the bank for any free agent. if you want to play for a winning team, you're gonna get paid less...a LOT LESS!!! For most players, there is one smell they chase and that over-powers all others...

    The smell of MONEY!!!!!

You somehow think there are 32 teams with starting spots open at all positions so free agents can go to any team they want. That's just not the case. Von Miller could go to 20-30 teams. But everyone who is not the best player (not free agent) at their position have few options...usually a handful or less depending on what position you play, where you are in the pecking order of your position, and how much you want to get paid.

Revis wants to get paid. He went to the Bucs to keep his $16mil a year salary, then to the Pats for a year where they thought him getting a taste for winning would get him to lower his price. Nope, so he went to the Jets...with a new HC, new GM, and no QB....to get PAID!!!

And I think we have an above avg amount of cap space, especially when you cut Griff's almost $9mil off the books. We could literally sign Josh Norman, Alshon Jeffrey, and Muhamad Wilkerson to huge contracts (avg $15mil each which would be overpaying) and cut McCourty, Cox (replace one of these guys in the draft), Griff, Douglas, and Pitoitua and still have plenty of cap room!!!

Every player will tell their agent the same thing. Find me the best deals...preferably on a winning team! Most of the best deals...are NOT on winning teams as the lower end teams tend to have the most money to spend!!!

And even a guy like Wilkerson won't have as many suitors as you think because he wants to be paid like Mario Williams. How many teams can afford that contract, need a 3-4 DE, and will think it worth the bang for their buck. Mario Williams was good in Buffalo, but they didn't get anywhere and Suh isn't exactly showing the positive impact of spending all that money on one player!

This team isn't even going to try and outbid other teams. They rarely ever do. Levitre was the last and only example I can think of, and IIRC, his contract wasn't staggering. It was around $7 or so....so, it's not like the team stuck it's neck out there for a top tier FA. He was just the best of an average bunch. That is often how FA goes. The better prospects typically re-sign with their current team, and there isn't much meat left on the bone when the market opens up in March.

This year, we will probably HAVE to overpay to attract a few good FA's, but I still expect we will get beat out by other teams with much better records and coaching situations. Let's say for example, we currently are the highest bidder for Okung, and the Raiders, with $72mill in cap space, looking to upgrade from OT Penn, ask his agent what our offer is.

Do you honestly think we are going to win that one? How about the Panthers, who just saw their OT's get worked over in the SB...you think they won't make a similar offer and tell his agent "do you want to play for the Titanic, after just hitting a 2nd Iceburg, or do you want to play for one of the 2016 season Superbowl contenders?"

If we had hired Hugh Jackson, Kelly or McDaniels, I think we'd have a decent chance for some. But don't underestimate the the effect this dark gloomy cloud hanging over this franchise has in FA. It's gonna be tough sledding.

Lets face it... At this point Tunsil is the best prospect coming out of college this year. For all the talk I've seen people on this forum say about "BPA BPA BPA" and turn around and are against Tunsil? Makes no sense. I have yet to see anyone actually argue that hes not a good prospect...

You find room for these talented players-- regardless if its awkward or not. And even if he just plays RT I think RT >> FS impact on the football field. Gives us flexibility for Lewan negotiations.

I've seen mock offseasons of people having us sign the top LG, C, and RT in free agency for us-- its just not realistic. At best you're going to get one starter in FA imo. Has a team ever signed two of the top Olinemen in FA in the same offseason?

You draft Tunsil, get a top guard or Center (Ravens swing guy is interesting), draft some more competition for Schwenke, and its a good, YOUNG line that is in place for 3 years minimum. Sign Miller on top of that and you have a running game.

the overall point is I'm not looking for a guy on the offensive line who's only proof that he can fix a problem is SEC gametape and a pinky promise -- I'm looking for resumes and proven traits.....

(btw, Chance Warmack and Taylor Lewan were both drafted based off SEC Tape... Chance Warmack attending Alabama -- and Taylor Lewan off the footage of him against SEC defensive prospect J.Clowney in bowl game(whom the Texans had drafted earlier in that draft)
