He is a better fit as a 4-3 end. It depends on what defense the new hc installs. If the Titans stay in the 3-4 it wouldn't make sense. He would demand too much money, and I don't see him as an upgrade over our current starters. Wouldn't pay a backup olb more than the starters . Different conversation if the Titans swap to a 4-3 next season.

 

I don't see how people say a guy that has played the position for 5 years and has played at an All-Pro level, and an NFL Defensive Player of the Year level at times, doesn't fit a scheme.

With that said, he is old, expensive, has played badly this year, and has a bad attitude.

 

The Bills ran a 43 under Schwartz in 2014 and Williams played DE.

 

D'oh. Totally forgot about that guy.

 

I also believe he played a lot of 34 DE like Watt does in Houston where he would play DE in base and bounce onto the edge whenever they went into nickle. He did however play 34 OLB in his last season in Houston and had 4 sacks in 4 games.

 

Yeah. Most D's are pretty hybrid these days. To be an impact player, you are going to have to be able to play inside and outside, or rush and cover, etc.

 

Back to back 2 win seasons and we always say we had a good draft. I just don't see us being relevant for the next year no matter what we do. Too many holes

No rookies will be why we turn things around, but Mariota could take that step for us and then we're around a 6 or 7 win team. If we get 2-3 impact FAs then maybe that number grows, but I'm with you that no rookie fixes us in 2016

 

There is so much parity in the league, that there isn't a ton of difference between a 5 and 10 win team. A crazy percentage of the games are down to 1 possession.

If Mariota improves, things go our way with injuries, a few key guys develop, and we add a few guys, 10 wins is doable. Of course, 2-14 is doable, too.
