Mariota done for the season?

MM is the most important player on the team. We must protect him first and foremost.

Veteran QB's learn how to work within the confines of lack luster lines. Tom Brady, Big Ben, Drew Brees, all these guys kill it with ****** linemen playing... Mariota will get there in time..

Sign a couple FA's, lets use 1st round picks on skill players or game changing defenders...

 

Fixing the OL needs to be priority #1.

MM has shown that with protection, he can produce even with very little talent surrounding him. Even with the best talent and no protection though, we wont get much production from anyone.

We can get an RB round 2, and I think DGB will be the guy.

 

If you don't protect him NOW, then he will get killed before he gets to that point.

 

He gets dinged up, nothing severe..

 

If we really want to protect Mariota these things need to happen:

1. Mariota needs to put on weight.
2. Draft Tunsil (even though I hate it).
3. New OL coach.
4. Move Poutasi to G.

Tunsil - Poutasi - Schwenke - Warmack - Lewan

That line should be able to protect Mariota with decent coaching.

 

So far ... but how has that philosophy worked out for the Colts?

They have spent a lot of resources on surrounding luck with "playmakers" ... now that he is hurt, maybe they should've invested in some OL with those picks instead.

Thats another guy doing a lot with little. Well til this year but generally Luck has made his awful line look legit... And he's been doing that for a while.

It wont take Mariota years to learn the nuances to playing NFL QB. Lets equipment him with play makers to expedite the process....

Schwenke needs to get the heck out of here. We need to bring in the top C in FA (that fits our system)

Then we draft Tunsil and move Lewan over to RT.

Poutasi needs some major competition for any spot on the OL. Perhaps Bell could battle for that spot.

Warmack needs to be pushed as well. I would look at bringing in another G in FA / later round of the draft to push.
