Oh the mistake of running schemes you don't have the personnel for isn't just an offense thing, defense coordinators do it just as much. I thought it was a mistake to switch to a 3-4 because we didn't have the players for it and I still think Morgan is a bad fit at OLB and Woodyard, Willimason and Brown are not great inside either.

Yeah the LBs aren't great but admittedly they are way better than I thought they were going to be. Willmason though I like a lot. I believe he will only get better as the talent around him continues to be upgraded.

No, he wouldn't. He got a better QB, and still found ways to lose. He gets ridiculously conservative anytime he gets even the slightest of leads....and he goes overboard trying to keep his mobile QB from every leaving the pocket...even when it starts to collapse. That philosophy has hamstrung Mariota. He was a passer, who just so happened to be a good athlete, but the Whiz refused to let MM8 improvise to buy his receivers more time.

He also had a well-known problem getting his QB's hurt. In the end, THAT more than anything else, is why he got canned during the season, rather than at the end of it. Whiz is just a really, really lousy HC. Might be a decent OC, but his suckage quotient was through the roof before he got here. We all hoped he learned from his previous failures, but he didn't. He took a middle of the pack team and made it a league worst.

As for Kelly's system being a gimmick....funny you should say that. It's exactly what many were saying about Kelly the whole time he was at Oregon. "It's just a gimmick offense...won't last." He kept right on winning, year after year. Then folks just like you scoffed at him coming into the league. His system is a gimmick, they said...he wins 10 games each season.

So, to your opinion about Kelly and Whiz, I respectfully say.....

Gimmicks have never worked in the NFL. Every college coach since Jimmy Johnson has ended up back in college a short time later. Why should we believe Chip Kelly will be the one to buck these two trends.

20-12 in 2 seasons and we'd all be going nuts about the results!

Your hypothesis is flawed at best, disingenuous at worst. Calling chip a failure as head coach is a lie.

Now, go find me stats on how many ex assistants become great coaches vs flaming out. Or how many retread nfl head coach.

The truth is much like players, good coaches that last are few and far between.

Hue Jackson (I'm a fan) there are plenty of reasons to believe he would flop as well.

He won as a OC and HC when he had an accurate pocket QB that matched his system.

No one is saying Whiz is a good coach. I never liked the hire. I use it only as an example to say Kelly's scheme, as do most in the NFL, only work when the talent is right.

You are seeing now the result of Kelly's scheme when he has inferior talent to run it. Of course, he's blaming execution instead of scheme just as Whiz did.

Kelly's offense runs the same plays - Business Insider

This is just after the first two weeks. It's gone no where but down since. His own players are calling it one-dimensional.

He's been horrible as Head of Football Operations. The Eagles are the first NFL team in 47 years to lose back-to-back games to teams with losing records by 28 or more points.

I don't want him anywhere near the Titans.

USC just went in a different direction, which would seemingly greatly increase the chances Kelly stays in the pros.

The problem with Chip, is that he is stubborn and power hungry. We DEFINITELY do not need that here.....What a mess this is.

Didn't read every post but this guy is super hyper private. Why? Why would even those who worked with him not known about a 7 year marriage?

Is he gay, is that it? Should we care?
