Settle down, I never said he was not a good college coach.

Shady was a proven success in Kelly's offense. He had almost 3000 yards in the two seasons in that offense. Kelly chose to trade him and bring in one guy who had 2 1000 yard seasons out of four with injury issues. The second back he brought in has never been healthy, ever.

    Straight up released DeSean Jackson.

Let Jeremy Maclin hit free agency.

    Released Evan Mathis.

    Traded for Sam Bradford.

    Dude is clueless.

Letting Mathis go was a mistake.
Letting DJax go was not. He refused to play the game the team needed him to.
He lost a bidding war for Maclin. Maclin's agent knew he could get more out of fat Andy.
And the only thing wrong with the Bradford trade was giving up a pick. Foles is riding the pine behind Keenum.

While I think he's been given too much power, Kelly is far from clueless.

He's also drafting all of their replacements, who have been awful.

Agholor, Matthews, Ertz. All have either been underutilized or just bad.

Not to mention the hilarious amount of Pac12 players they've drafted, all of whom have been terrible. Michael Kendricks is the only one worth a damn.

His system is based on speed, lots of it. He traded it all away thinking they were all replaceable. Desean Jackson is one of thee if not thee fastest player in the league. Maclin and McCoy both are low in the 40.

This is the kind speed he needs for his system to be great at this level. And he foolishly and very arrogantly dumped it all because he felt he knew better.

I agree that currently the NFL-proven coaches aren't likely to be an option for us. As you say, I don't see Gruden, Dungy, or Cowher dropping their broadcasting gigs to come here.

Harbaugh isn't going anywhere soon, and I'm not sure I'd be crazy about having him here if he were.

I'd rather take a look at some of our other options, like Jackson. Interview a few of the OCs from other teams and a few college HCs.

Id much rather take a chance on an unknown who wont break the bank than pay a premium for a mediocre "name". We had that with Fisher.

Chip Kelly is Steve Spurrier 2.0

This guy has crazy success at Oregon and no reason to leave. But like Spurrier, he believes that his "system" can't be beaten and will thrive at the NFL level. It's obvious it is not working, although I haven't read of any player discipline reports, so I'm unsure if this is problem as well.

In Washington, it was noted several times that Spurrier could not handle the attitudes of the players, tardiness, agents, and yes, even cell phones during meetings.

The thing about Spurrier was he didn't want anything to do with the defense. Didn't even bother getting to know those guys. He just hired Marvin Lewis as the DC and thought he would take care of it. Spurrier's time in Washington was essentially a glorified OC.

I think the key to alot of these coaches is a franchise qb. Carroll was a mediocre NFL coach until Wilson. Saban said he would still be at Miami had they gotten Drew Brees. I think alot of the good college coaches don't translate because the go to awful franchises with no qb and are expected to have instant success.
