IMO, next week will be a huge test for this team and how they respond when Carolina comes to town. I think this game will dictate the true pulse of this team going forward and Mularkey's potential future with us.

Carolina is a tough team that plays ugly and gets ugly wins ... but they win.

We need to show that we can gut out an ugly win as well against them. This game isn't about MM's TD/int ratio, its not about looking perfect.

This game is all about going up against another team and doing whatever it takes to scrap out a victory, no matter how ugly it looks.

Yahoo Sports reports there's a "steadily increasing possibility" that coach Sean Payton leaves the Saints in the offseason.

Payton's future appears tied up with the legal drama unfolding amongst Saints ownership. If owner Tom Benson loses control of the team to his children, it appears Payton will walk (he has a clause in his contract allowing him to do so). Ian Rapoport has reported Payton could be allowed to walk regardless of ownership. Yahoo, ESPN and NFL Network have all now reported that Payton could be moving on, providing smoke that could easily lead to fire. Payton is in his ninth season in New Orleans.

kippy brown doesn't, he seems to either suggest retaining current staff or offensive minded college coach... (hint: college coach from texas )

Would loooooooooooooooooove Payton as HC/OC, then retain the majority of our defensive staff.

Trent Baalke had more to do with their resurgence than anything Harbaugh did. Baalke was/is directly in charge of player personnel and he put together most of that outstanding defense they had and built what was once considered the best OL in the NFL. Not saying Harbaugh wasn't a good coach but Balke was more important to their success. Let's remember that 49ers weren't that good last season even with Harbaugh, and then lost about 7 starters either to FA, retirement, or in the case of Aldon Smith they just released him after his 3rd DUI.

Payton would be amazing if he would come here. Mariota certainly helps our case, but I think the ownership situation could scare him away.

Who the hell is Kippy Brown? College coach from Texas, I hope you mean Baylor. Charlie Strong should get nowhere near this team. If you're talking about Baylor and Art Briles, I'm not a fan of spread college coaches. That stuff just doesn't work very well in the pros, especially coming to a team with no wr and no rb.

I don't like Payton as a potential coach. I have no football reasons, I know he won a Super Bowl, yada yada, but I never liked the guy, doesn't seem like a dude I'd like to drink a beer with or anything. He has this weasely demeanor like a douche, just rubs me the wrong way. He'd be another guy calling his own plays, having total control of the offense, idk, whis maybe screwed that up for the next coach. Like I said I don't have anything to point out from a football perspective against the guy, if he were to come in, and win, I'd change my tune quick, but for now I'd prefer we didn't hire him at this point.
