Why is Webster still with us?

I'm not a Webster fan but there's no reason in firing him right now. His job this season is essentially done except picking up guys due to injuries and working on contract extensions. Firing him now just creates a possible distraction and more negative press. I'm sure the Titans are looking at possibilities in the front office just like they're taking tabs on head coaches.

 

Webster has had success at finding late rounders I'll give him that. And his early picks have been guys who play more often than not. So yes he can look at a guy and find a spot for him but he has thus far been unable to really find stars. Hopefully Marcus turns out to be but its hard to miss at pick 2.

 

If you look at the list it actually happens a fair amount. In the last 14 years you have at least 6 that didn't live up to their draft position.

Go back and look at the drafts from 2005 to 2012. That's a huge reason why our team sucks right now. Can't put all that blame on Webster.
In that timespan from the 1st and 2nd round, Griffin and Morgan are the only picks still with the team.

 

The only reason to fire him now is if you think that you can get a new GM into place so that he can get a true feel of who the locker room leaders are and to really get to know the guys before the offseason. Let him build relationships wth the coaches so that he might be able to convince Lebeau to stay around.

 

For every success Webster has had albeit draft or free agency, he failed 3 or 4 times, I mean, we are a perennial losing franchise, we are the gutter of the league. A small market team that hasn't won a playoff game in 13 years, consistently missing on qb's and coaches. Some is on ownership, that isn't going to change, and the rest is in the GM.


Webster needs to go, there needs to be symmetry with the team, coach and GM need to be together.


There also needs to be a roster shape up because this team isn't growing, nobody is stepping up, and they aren't creating an identity. Players like wriight and walker might be decent players, but they aren't setting the standard for the team, we need to get rid of some of the players and bring in new people, and build this thing from scratch.

 

Webster does seem to lack success when picking offensive skill players, but he has done well when drafting defensive players.

 

You can hire anyone you want to coach them. The team has to get better. I don't see Ruston doing it. There are reasons other teams have walked away from him making him a recycled GM. He has functioned as one.
