This happened in 2001. The year after they lost to the Ravens I just mentioned. They lost to the Patriots in a divisional playoff game with the Tuck rule.

It was just a matter of time until the Gruden Train got rolling. Tennesseans love him, for some reason.

Right it was Trent Dilfer. I was going to say Ryan Leaf, poor charger fans lol. I feel like they are the equivalent but one of them had the Ravens defense.

I'm a Vol fan here. I know the feeling. Not that I love him or anything, just his name was brought up every time a coaching search was happening. That bugged the hell out of me.

Because he got his coaching start as a UT grad assistant, and his wife was a UT cheerleader/graduate. So, there is a little history, plus he's given a little tease of interest here and there. His SB ring alone would push recruiting through the roof. Nick Saban is a good HC, but his credentials jacked up Bama's recruiting immediately, as well and in year 2 they won the SEC Championship, IIRC.

So, Gruden would certainly be a good coach for the collegiate level, but probably a higher risk in the NFL....especially after all these years away from it. He's making 6mill/yr with ESPN, and no coaching headaches...so, he ain't going no'wheres. :)

It doesn't state that at all ... He says that Kelly would have to find a way to get to TN to coach MM. (and he even says that is highly unlikely)

The only mention of both reuniting on a new team was one of 3 hypothetical scenarios that he laid out back in May ... none of which he said were likely, just the only possible scenarios.

I wouldn't say that article was absurd at all either. It was pretty much a fair assessment of MM thus far, says its very unlikely that Kelly will be reunited with him, but the firing of KW left some small possibility.
