I would normally agree with you here, but our roster isn't good enough to take a lot of risks. Whiz and co are keeping these games close with an inferior roster. Imo, if we "played to win" we'd have the same record, but with bigger losses. This is a young team, being conservative and keeping the games close is how you keep their confidence up. If we just had one lucky bounce we win the colts and bills games, then all these whiz haters wouldn't be talking about firing him.

This is such a dumb post.

The difference between Munchak and Whisenhunt is pretty simple:
Munchak would usually win the games he was supposed to win, but would always drop one or two against terrible teams every season.

Whisehunt, on the other hand, barely gets beat in the games we're supposed to win.

I want that to sink in for those of you saying "Oh we're close!"

BARELY LOSING GAMES AGAINST BAD TEAMS IS NOT CLOSE!!!!! We got beat by Johnny Manziel, then we blew a double digit lead in the 4th to a wounded Colts team, THEN we blew a double digit lead in the 4th to a Bills team that was missing practically ALL of its offensive weapons. THIS IS NOT THE DEFINITION OF A TEAM BEING CLOSE! If these things were happening against the Patriots or Packers, then yeah, we're close. But it's not! We're ripping defeat out of the jaws of victory against BAD TEAMS!!! The only one of these teams that will be sniffing the playoffs will be the Colts, and that's just because somebody has to win the AFC South.

As for Munchak, you could easily make the argument that, had the ball bounced differently a few times, Munchak would have gotten to the playoffs at least twice. Not only that, but Munchak's teams were always dealing with tons of injuries and headcases (CJ, Britt, Cook).

Munchak was definitely in over his head, but he was an OLine coach that got promoted to HC, it was unrealistic to expect him to figure it all out in three seasons. Not only that, but he was in a bad situation from the get-go. Our franchise QB had gone full headcase and was gone, so we had to draft a QB in the 1st in one of the worst drafts for QBs in history, the team's star RB held out and then quit caring once he got paid, our best WR was an injury prone headcase, and even with all of that, even with all of that AND the excessive injuries, the guy was a few wonky plays from getting into the playoffs each year. The OL coach that was only a HC for three seasons.

But Whisehunt? With all of Whisenhunt's years of experience as an OC and as a HC? What has he done? 3-17, that's what he's done. And it's not "Oh, well, there were a few bad plays", NO! Our failures can be DIRECTLY pinpointed on his crap playcalling! Furthermore, if Whiz loses 9 more games (NINE!) this season, he will have lost as many games in two seasons as Munchak did in three.

YES, we should be 4-0 right now. We've played four bad teams that were suffering from injuries, but because our headcoach doesn't understand that playing to not lose is a recipe for disaster, we're 1-3, we're in the cellar of the worst division in the NFL!

If Whiz doesn't sweep the Jags and the Cows, he and Webster need to be shown the door as soon as the season ends. Really, Webster should have been shown the door a year ago (at least).

The sad thing is, we all chuckled at the Rams for hiring Fisher, and have completely ignored that when we hired Whiz the Cardinals fans were chuckling at us.

That said, I wish we had just kept Munchak for one more season and then went after Dan Quinn after that (or was Quinn available when we got Whis' sorry ass?)

I just heard on Dan Patrick that Sean Payton and Saints are currently on bad terms. We should go ahead and inquire, as I believe a Whisenhunt firing is inevitable (as it should be).

    Whisenhunt career winning % = 43%
    Payton career winning % = 61%
    Philbin career winning % = 46%

Payton said the other day he doesn't know what he's going to do when Drew Brees retires.

Thats a bad thing for future employers to hear. Almost sounds a lot like what Whisenhunt has been post Warner era...

Why not start over with a fantastic prospect in Mariota?

Payton has had Brees for his entire run, Whis would look much better if he had coached the saints for the past 10 years. Whis is the perfect example of what having a great QB can do for a coach's reputation... and without it, how much their true colors show.

Titans have been a trainwreck for 12 years now, with just a few good spots. The babies who were born when the Titans last won a playoff game are now in 6th or 7th grade.

Whis is not the guy who can win without a top tier QB, Payton isn't either, IMO. Got to have someone who can make something out of nothing.. very hard to find.

IF we fire Whiz midseason, which I doubt happens... I wonder who would become the interim head coach?

We don't know if Payton is or not, but he's won more games in a tougher division. Any coach worth a damn wouldn't be losing in the fashion Whisenhunt has.
