LOL - I wrote movie reviews for my Jr. High newspaper and Mad Max was one of the films. I still have a copy someplace.
It's so terrible too! Kids should not be writing movie reviews.

Kirsten Dunst Says 'the Movie Industry is in a Weird Place'

    Kirsten Dunst-
"Too many cooks in the kitchen — the studio’s editing it, the producers are editing it, the director’s editing, too. But everyone has their hand in it, so whose movie is it at the end of the day?”
“People don’t need all the money they’re using,” she added. “That’s the other thing: when you have too much time, too much money, the creative starts to slip away. It just does.”

Have you been watching the latest Project Greenlight?
The director they have chosen is a weird bird no doubt - but he has some very specific ideas about what he wants to do and the douchey producer they have assigned (a certain Effie Brown) is neutering him at every stop (and have some out of place obsession with cultural diversity regarding a movie that is pretty much not applicable).
Her war of words with Peter Farrelly was a pretty insightful look at egos controlling the process.
    Kirsten Dunst is totally right.

I get that and actually can't really disagree with anything you said. Still, I think the hate/frustration gets misdirected quite a bit. It's the movie-goers, the "masses" if you will, that are ultimately driving this phenomenon.

I just don't see how you fix it. The people are gonna go see what they're gonna go see. And the studios are gonna follow the money, plain and simple. And the Michael Bays of the world aren't gonna stop taking lucrative directing jobs just because a bunch of people are raging on the interwebs.

There should be room for both big business movies as well as the more artistic lot. But at the end of the day I can't really act too surprised that the business side of things has almost completely taken over.

The silver lining, if you wanna call it that, is that with modern technology and distribution methods those artistic films can and are still being made and put out there. You just gotta work a little harder to seek them out these days.

I'm already tired of the long list of re-boots, remakes, and other crappy ideas that are going on in Hollywood, with the exception of the new Star Wars. This is why I am loving the time I spend with old content, the kind that shows you people used to use their brain a bit when putting together arcs and story lines. But now, everything is geared sensationalism, or big booms, flashy effects, and political agendas.

Sometimes I wish I could take a time machine back in time and watch some of the older content when it was brand new. Sad that you have to go into the past to be refreshed.

And it's rewarding when you find that lowkey movie that's amazing at the same time you can throw me into that "mass" category because I will go out and see some big budget blow **** up movies and not give 1 care in the world.

If that's bringing the movie industry down, I'm sorry.

But to hate a movie because it's BIG is dumb. Or to hate a movie because it's a sequel or remake is also dumb. I'm in the mindset of if you don't want to see it, don't go to see it. Pretty simple.

I catch maybe 4 movies a year. Usually a superhero movie, a movie my wife wants to see, and a comedy. Sometimes a horror movie, but I usually tend to wait for those to come out on DVD. Hasn't been any good ones lately.

FTR I don't blame you for the movies you choose to go see. I think people need to get over it honestly. It certainly ain't changing anytime soon. I don't see many movies in the theater anymore either. But that's mostly because theater etiquette has devolved to a point where it's 50/50 if I'll even be able to enjoy the movie or I'll just sit there pissed off the whole time because people won't get off their phones or stop talking.

Honestly I never go opening day, it's usually weeks after the movie and there will be maybe 10 people in the theater room lol
