Levitre Traded to Falcons

What is "dead money"? If another team is paying his contract, I don't see how the Titans are affected outside of what they've already paid. But maybe I don't understand it all correctly.

The thread for this on reddit was full of Falcon fans claiming this as the best thing ever and the Titans just weren't right for him. This was our highest payed player who also filled a position that to say the least is shaky for us and we traded him for a 6th. This should say it all for those delusional people but thanks for taking him!

 

It's dead money because the player is no longer on the team / contract is no longer on the books. Our dead money in this case is the signing bonus that RW spread out over the first four years of Levitre's contract.

Atlanta traded for Levitre and his contact - we still owe the signing bonus agreed upon when the contract was originally signed. Edit: Unless we work a deal with Atlanta to pay the $4.2 owed next year - but dont' expect we will be that lucky. RW already worked some black magic getting this deal done.
