Honest Mariota impressions and predictions

    I apologize ahead of Time for the length of this post. Lol

    3 preseason games in.

    Game One:
    Showed the kid is human. Probably more human than we would hope. INT and strip sacked right out the gate...

    Finished 7 of 8 for 94 yards. Beautiful touch pass to the RB. 1 int and one fumble. Stayed calm.
    ---------
    Game Two:
    Looked much more comfortable. Made another beautiful touch pass on a roll out to TE Craig Stevens.

    Finished 5 of 8 for 59 yards. Highlight here include the small detail that his communication system went down in the first drive. He calmly played the game and looked like a pro.

    McCluster Dropped his would be TD on a play where you saw everything you would want from a rookie. Calm under pressure, slid and stepped up and away from the collapsing pocket and delivered a strike to the wide open check down... No dice.

    Game Three:
    Welcome to a defense that put together a plan... What we should expect week in and week out ahead in the regular season. Started out rough. Found some rhythm in the second quarter.

    Finished 7 of 11 for 99 yards. We saw some of his legs in this game. The keeper looked smooth. And once again he hit another beautiful touch pass to Wright over the middle. He can drop dimes over the top of his targets.

    Grand total for preseason to date:
    19 of 27 for 252. Not running away with any passing records any time soon. The regular season looms in my mind. I see some rough treading ahead. The kid might be good for 5-6 wins this year.

    I have to applaud his poise and ability to rally back when things go wrong. He's got an innate ability that will strongly help him going forward. His accuracy level has not been consistent and yet it has been pretty intriguing to say the least.

    I wanna say the kid has something, that "It" factor that we might not see until year 2, but it's there. It's maturing and while he may never be the cold cut passing champion, he might be able to achieve something better along the way... Flat out victories.

    If Mariota sniffs 3200 yards passing I'll be the first to say I didn't expect that. 2800 might even be pushing it right now. The way the offense is controlled to be very run first and them easing him in (rightfully so) - it might be awhile before we see what he can do unleashed.

    We will lose more games than we win, Mariota is going to deliver us some exciting wins we didn't expect. This will be a learning season without a doubt.

    Final stat predictions:
    6 wins.
    2700 yards passing
    450 yards rushing
    15 TDs.

    If he throws for 2700 yards, we'll win more games.

    Way I see it, we will be playing from behind a lot so more passing. I expect 3500 yards if he plays all 16.

    So easy to see the potential. He's an effortless athlete. Glides when he runs. And he throws a more accurate ball than we ever saw from Locker or Young.

    That said, has a ways to go in some areas. And the talent around him won't do him many favors. Could be a slow process. But he's further ahead than I thought he was going to be coming in.

    2700 yards is only about 170 per game....less actually. Blake Bortles did better last year. Hell, geno "I ain't paying my debt" smith nearly did and he is a f'ing joke.

    I'd love to see something like: 3500 yards, 20 TDs, 12 INTs, and 400-600 rushing yards.... and at least 6 wins.

    The kid is a competitor, loved what I saw after the Justin Houston sack. He popped right back up and got after the next play, even got in Houstons face a little. He's not scared of anybody.

    Problem is, I think the defense and offensive line will be his downfall. Although, he could put up crazy stats if he's trying to play catchup every game.

    Put him at, at least, 3600 yards passing and about 22 TD's passing and I agree.

    Wow you guys are really setting the bar low. Assuming he stays healthy all year I'm thinking he's a 4000-yard passer as a rookie

    I agree, hell 3600 yards is only 225 per game, I see him doing at least that.
