Cut his ass then or cut his pay in half atleast. Dude is garbage. The one game he isn't starting we actually looked decent even with a rookie rt and LG who shouldn't be any good.

Fasano will make the team . He is a good asset for the offense. We have more depth this year in areas we did not have last year. Our WR depth is so much better as is our OL depth. TE we are loaded as well. We need depth in LB and CB. But from last years team and with the turnover we have had, things are looking up.

We save money by cutting him if that's what you mean.

Aside from rookies, you'd save money by cutting any vet in this league.

Apparently we didn't put any of his money into roster bonuses, which is an incredibly dumb move by Webster. An inept GM move.

So when you look at the breakdown of that contract, we owe him $6.3mil this year if we cut him... and then $4.2mil next year... and $2.1mil the following year. We're gonna be paying this bum for the next three seasons whether or not he's on this team.

There's potentially other contract language that could get us out of paying him beyond this year, but it's not seen here.

All in all, I think he makes the final 53, unfortunately... due to horrible structuring by Webster. Next year would be a more likely opportunity for him to get cut.

If his cap hit is $8M but his dead money value is $6M how is he not cut already? We get $2M towards our cap no?

Signing bonus was paid out already, I don't think we owe him anything more, the hit comes from prorating his deal over several years.

I thought that dead money was referring to the team's dead money... as in he's getting that money no matter what, whether he's cut or not.

He'd get the $6mil and we'd save $2mil. But we'd have to pay him next year and the year after as well.

I don't think we're on the hook for anything, signing bonuses are paid upfront and prorated over the length of the contract

No, you're not understanding what you're looking at. We take a cap hit from his prorated signing bonus of $2.1mil each year for the next 3 seasons. Since it's 2.1mil this year plus his 6.5mil salary, he has a cap hit of 8.6mil this season (6.5 in base plus prorated cap hit of 2.1). With me so far?

When you look at his contract, it says dead money this year 6.3mil, next year 4.2mil, and 2.1mil the 3rd season from now. Dead money means cap hit, NOT us paying him anything. Again, this is a prorated value from his signing bonus spread over the length of the contract. Since there is 6.3mil spread over the next 3 seasons....if we cut him this year we eat 6.3mil in cap, 4.2mil if we cut him next season, and 2.1 if we cut him the 3rd season. NONE of this is anything we pay him, it is cap hits from his signing bonus.

But there is a wrinkle to this. If we cut him now, we DON'T eat the $6.3mil cap hit because it's after June 1 (they moved this to a date in May but that's besides the point). A lot of teams needed a way to push cap back to the following season so they created this concept of June 1 cuts. A player cut after June 1 still gets penalized this years prorated cap hit (2.1mil in our case) and the rest is pushed back to NEXT season ($4.2mil in 2016).

If we had cut him prior to June 1, it would have looked like this... ($6.5mil in base salary - $6.3mil in dead money + a savings of 200k and Levitre is off our books for 2016 and beyond). Since it is past that date, i believe it would look like this ($6.5mil in base - $2.1mil in dead money = $4.4mil saved in cap this year but a $4.2mil in dead money lowering the 2016 cap next season).

We had the cap to cut Levitre to get him off our books AND sign Wisniewski and Mathis at OC and OG and felt good about our OL. Oops, we did none of that. And now if we cut Levitre, we take a $4.2mil cap hit next year we could have used on an important free agent!!! So we don't sign the free agents we had available and could have really used and saved cap space for further improvements next season, but we didn't and now lose cap next year!!!

    Webster needs to go!
