Jamarcus Russell was expected to be insanely good, I think his hype was even higher than RG3 when he came out of LSU. Thank god he wasn't in this years draft Whiz would cream his pants for an arm like that.

Yeah, I remember the hype too. He was absolutely terrible at the pro level. That's why I am not quite as worried about Mariota here. He doesn't have the "best arm" or biggest build, but he does everything pretty darn well. Good arm, great accuracy, good vision, can run if need be, and very level headed. I think Jameis was a terrible mistake by the Bucs. Sure, he is a baller come game time, but his attitude sucks, and he has yet to see an NFL defense. This is going to be interesting to watch these two unfold.

Yeah, everything about them is opposites on and off the field. They are like night and day.

I know...I mean, technically, Jameis outplayed Mariota when they faced each other in College....but it's a different scenario now. I still like Mariota long term. His leadership, decision making, and accuracy (less interceptions) are far superior, and will be key to his success. The fact that players respect him so much already, says a lot. I just hope it translates this year at the next level.

I gotta be honest, Jameis was 10 times the leader for FSU that Mariota was for Oregon. I think Jameis will be a better leader because of his personality, but the other intangibles like speed and decision making as well as intelligence should be advantageous to Mariota.

People act like Jameis is an idiot, all though he makes some questionable off the field decisions... he knows football (atleast it seems like he does). Everything I saw was showing he's more than capable to run and understand an NFL offense, unlike VY for example.

I think both Jameis and Mariota will find success in the NFL, eventually.

As for McNair "lasting" as a mobile QB... dude was banged up most the time.

Hell, if it weren't for his constant "I'm hurt" excuses, his legend wouldn't even exist.

Jamarcus Russell was way too raw for anyone to expect such high success in such a short time frame. He was a high risk with a super high reward. RG3 was polished and NFL ready from day 1. So Russell's fall is nowhere as hard as RG3.

However, I was actually rooting for Russell. Dude was like a man vs kids at LSU with a cannon of a arm. Such a waste of talent.
