Underwood adamant about offset clause in Mariota's deal

    I get that, but at this point, he isnt signed because of language in the contract. Most kids right out of college probably need some level of assistance signing a contract worth millions. The slotted contract thing is better than what it used to be, but obviously there are still negotiations involved.

    Subway, Nike, Beats by Dre, First Hawaiian Bank and now an insurance company in Hawaii are all paying Mariota million$ to rep their brands.

    Yet the Titans are getting the same services for free.
    Tell me about "fair" again.
    No other Titans player gets signed without offset language, but no other player has been designated the "face of the franchise."
    There is no precedent to defend, until they decide they want more than one "face of the franchise."
    The team has put itself in a bad spot, and it's time to pay up.

    IMO, it's pretty real stupid for anyone to expect to be paid by two NFL teams at the same time.

    Just because a couple of teams do it doesn't mean Mariota should think the Titans will adjust their stance just for him and I don't blame the front office one bit for not wanting to open a can of worms by giving in here.

    Guess where all those endorsers will go if Mariota isn't on the field?

    Mariota has zero leverage here.

    Neither Webster nor Underwood negotiate contracts. Vin Marino is the Titans contract guy.

    Also, Mariota has stated he won't hold out. It doesn't matter if the contract is signed the day players report. Until Mariota misses camp, no one should worry.
