This article from last year states:
"Over the last several years, only a handful of players in each year have managed to avoid having offsets language written into their deals. In most cases, a lack of offsets for a player simply relies on which team drafted him — clubs like the Rams and Jaguars traditionally haven’t pushed to include offsets in contracts for their top picks, even in an era where most other teams around the league do."

This implies the Titans aren't old world thinkers but actually new world thinkers.

Offset language being removed for Top 2-3 picks hasn't changed at all, until Jameis Winston decided it was best for him to prove himself off the field so he could be the #1 pick. Underwood is the one who brought up precedence, which is why I bring up "old world" thinking. If he's trying to say that you negotiate with Mariota the same way you negotiate with an OL picked 11th, that's just stupid, IMO.

He'll cave, because his puppet master Amy Strunk will figure out that pissing off your franchise QB, along with your fans, just to potentially save a few million dollars is bad business in the long run. The NFLPA is going to insist the Tollners stand strong, since Jameis already signed his deal without any advice from the union on giving up on no offsets.

How many times do I have to point out that every single #1 and #2 pick since the 2011 CBA, outside of Winston this year for obvious reasons, doesn't have offset language? Underwood mentioned precedence in negotiating within the Titan organization, not any sort of forward thinking or a paradigm shift.

How much money in season ticket sales and merchandise sales have the Titans already made off of Mariota? He's not being paid any of it, even by the NFLPA because he's not a member (I think you have to be signed to get residuals on likeness being used), yet he allowed himself to be put on billboards to hawks tickets, TV ratings, and merchandise.

Just a very odd stand for the Titans to make, IMO.

Congrats, Titans. Steve Underwood is the new Jim Irsay, but without the successful franchise.

What's interesting is this article was written last year saying that the Rams and jags were the 2 teams who didn't insist on offset language and once again this year they are the only 2 teams not requiring it of their first round pick,.
