Yes, because everyone loves a cry baby QB that hasn't even played a down in the NFL. That would be a terrible move.

Titans want to protect the Titans, Mariota wants to protect Mariota.

    Neither is wrong.

But at the end of the day Mariota is going to be a Titan.

I don't think you can really include "networth" since a lot of that would be determined by marketing and sponsorship deals. The leagues are not responsible for how many subway commercials an individual player gets.

However, when you look at the salaries, it would seem that the NFL underpays compared to the other leagues. Especially considering the fact that they make more revenue than any other league.

BarDown: NHL player salaries higher than NFL on average, still lower than NBA & MLB

However, these don't take a few things into consideration:

    1) number of players in the league

NFL - 1696 total players on active roster
MLB - 800 on active roster (1280 if including 40 man roster)
NBA - 447 on opening day roster
NHL - 690 on active roster (1500 on contracted roster)

NFL may pay less on average ... but they have a lot more players to pay than some other leagues

    2) Average career length

    NFL - 3.3 years
    MLB - 5.6 years
    NBA - 4.8 years
    NHL - 5.5 years

The longer you are in the league, the more money you typically will make ... since NFL players on average don't play as long as in other leagues, they have less of a chance of getting to that lucrative 2nd contract.

    upload_2015-7-15_13-5-16.png

    3) Number of games played

    NFL - 16
    MLB - 162
    NBA - 82
    NHL - 82

I understand the argument that "NFL is a much more physical game" ... but on the same token, they play a LOT less games. NFL players are making all of their money with 16 weeks of work. All other leagues seasons are substantially longer.

I know there is more than just the season (OTAs, TC, preseason, practice, etc) ... but other leagues have their offseason programs as well. Also the NFL is becoming much easier in their practices. (only a certain number of padded practices allowed, etc). So its not like these players are taking a beating in practice during TC or between games anymore.

I think the public would see the hypocrisy. I'd like to see a media member ask Underwood if he would double-dip if he gets fired and takes a lesser-paying job. If so, why shouldn't the player he drafted as his franchise QB get the same opportunity? The NFL is worth billions, its players' heads turn to mush, yet it's the white guys in management who get guaranteed contracts even if they get fired and then hired somewhere else.

Oh boy you're back... only one other player drafted in this years first round has no offset language in tbeir contract... That means Mariota is being the difficult one.

If he loved football as much as he claims, and if he was such a competitor, as people claim. Then he would just sign the deal and price people wrong with his play. Then the offset language doesn't come into play anyway.

Mariota and his agent are the ones drawing this out and trying to get something they don't deserve.

How many NFL coaches and CEO's have offset language in their contracts? I will venture to say none of them do. That's the difference. 30 of the 32 first round picks have offset language. Mariota has no leverage and is being difficult.

Prove to me your passion for the game by just signing the deal and proving people wrong with your play. You aren't proving it by thinking about going to another team before you have even played a down of NFL football.

    He's missing nothing right now.

Crablegs had no problem with the clause because the chance he doesn't play out his contract are very small. He'd basically have to do something beyond stupid to get himself cut and find another NFL team desperate enough to sign him.

As I said before, your joke franchise just continues to bungle its way along, and fans like you enable it.

All this acrimony and bad blood brewing is because your front office can't go a week without blabbing about these negotiations in public, and you sit there a clap like a seal and bash the player who has already made the Titans money.

Some of you thinking Mariota's leverage is like Taylor Lewan's last year is laughable. The NFL is a business, and I'm glad Mariota is standing up to this bullying and boorish front office.

How many other 1st rounders, or draftees have their face plastered all over town?
Have they paid him for his advertising work yet?
Have they paid him for using his likeness, or his name/number on jerseys?

Did they NOT think about this before they claimed they were "all in" on making him the foundation on which they plan to build their future?

I believe he'll be signed, but the FO made this mess. They should have asked his agent about offset language before they started the ad campaign.

What is this talk of Underwood double dipping? The guy is retired/retiring, would rather be lounging or playing golf..
